Meet Group, the company behind dating apps including MeetMe, hi5 and Tagged, has a new way of verifying user photos.
The company has teamed up with FaceTec, whose 3D selfie tech lets you scan your face. The system will then compare it to your uploaded photos, and even use AI to estimate your current age – so you can’t get away with putting that picture up from that one summer 20 years ago where you were happy with the way you looked.
Once the system is happy that you’re not planning and cat/kittenfishing, you’ll be given a badge on your profile to show that you really are who you say you are.
“With the launch of the Profile Verification Badge on MeetMe, we are promoting authenticity with what we believe to be the most comprehensive verification solution in the dating industry. Currently, the verification badge indicates liveness, but as the feature is adopted, we will also begin comparing the profile photo to the 3D Selfie that was used to confirm Liveness. This proves that the person in the profile photos is the one posting them — helping to ensure authenticity and end catfishing.”
Meet Group was acquired by eHarmony earlier this year, but continues to trade independently, already uses other third-party initiatives to protect its client base, including the URSafe app, recently adopted by Grindr.
In addition, Meet Group uses DeviceCheck to block ‘bad actors’ at a device level, so they can’t keep signing up for new accounts in a different name, plus there’s a partnership with Microsoft’s Project Artemis which is dedicated to reducing the risk of child exploitation through dating and adult sites.
FaceTec’s technology is rolling out now on MeetMe, with Skout and Tagged being added in the coming months.
