Hundreds of millions of personal details stolen in FriendFinder hack

0
FriendFinder hack, personal details

If you’ve ever used the site AdultFriendFinder or some of the associated sites owned by the same company, there’s a good chance your details have been caught up in a massive hack on FriendFinder Networks. The net result? More than 400 million peoples’ personal information being exposed.

Needless to say, registration on hookup sites like AdultFriendFinder are a sensitive subject for many members, so the 412 million records stolen could potentially cause a lot of problems for the victims. According to LeakedSource.com, Cams.com, Penthouse.com, Stripshow.com and iCams.com users have also had details taken.

What makes it worse is that it’s not the first time the company has been hacked – it happened last year too – and the security researchers found that the passwords stolen were either in plain text or relatively easy to crack. Passwords from the main AdultFriendFinder site had also been transformed to lower case, making them even simpler to unlock.

Did you miss these?

Perhaps most unbelievable, however, is the list of most frequently used passwords found in the dump. I really thought we were past this, but apparently not.

The hack somewhat puts the scale of the Ashley Madison data breach last year into some context, but should also remind operators of such services that they will always be a target for hackers.
