CarpeDM is a member-only dating app built specifically for professional Black women. Instead of the usual swipe-left-swipe-right setup, it combines personal matchmaking with a video-first platform where members can actually see and hear potential matches before connecting. The app ditches endless swiping in favour of curated introductions – think of it as having a matchmaker who actually gets what you’re looking for.
The platform secured $1M in funding and centres Black women’s dating experiences, which founder Kerry Broome created after frustration with mainstream dating apps. Members go through a vetting process to join, and the video-first approach means you’re getting a more authentic sense of someone before you decide to DM them. It’s about quality connections rather than quantity – basically the opposite of swiping through hundreds of profiles while half-watching Netflix.
