Discord is a voice, video, and text chat platform that started life as a gaming communication tool back in 2015. It’s since sprawled well beyond gaming into education, business, and all manner of community spaces – including a significant number of adult content creators, kink communities, and sex educators who use it to build audiences and connect with members directly.
The platform’s relationship with adult communities has been rocky, though. Its
age verification rollout sparked serious backlash, with concerns about privacy and the burden placed on smaller NSFW servers. Discord
subsequently delayed the rollout following the criticism, but not before
a data breach exposed tens of thousands of government IDs that users had submitted through its verification system. With over 150 million monthly active users, it remains one of the most widely used platforms for community building – but its handling of adult content policies continues to raise questions about whether it’s a safe long-term home for sex-positive spaces.
