Coverage dossier
What started in 2021 as isolated confusion over Steam's adult content rules, with studios like Holodexxx and Super Seducer 3 forced onto niche platforms, has by 2025 and 2026 revealed a structural pattern that no single storefront controls. Itch.io's mass NSFW purge, GOG's public pushback against "quiet erasure," and SubscribeStar Adult's own reshaping all trace back to credit card networks and payment processors dictating what legal adult games can exist, regardless of platform policy or the law. This coverage thread tracks that squeeze, including efforts like Utherverse's Adult Game Fest to build infrastructure around it, because platform-hopping doesn't solve a problem that sits upstream of every platform's control.
Latest development
Utherverse is running Adult Game Fest September 24-26 inside its own metaverse platform, pitching a $500 million adult gaming sector that no mainstream trade show will host, with tickets at $99 early-bird.

GOG launched a protest microsite, Freedomtobuy.games, briefly giving away 13 adult and controversial games including Postal 2, after Steam and Itch.io delisted NSFW titles under credit card company pressure.

Super Seducer 3 launched on adult game platform Nutaku after Valve refused it on Steam, with creator Richard La Ruina saying further sequels make no financial sense without Steam or console distribution.
