VR porn platform SexLikeReal is set to roll out a new AI passthrough function for VR camming sessions, that will make live cam performers appear as if they’re in your ‘real’ surroundings during a VR session.
In 2024 the platform launched what it called the “world’s first” AR cam passthrough, which achieved this ‘in the room’ effect during live VR camming sessions, although it relied on performers being in green screen rooms.
The new AI passthrough technology will enable this same effect for VR sessions for selected live cam models and streams, regardless of their surroundings, eliminating the need for specialist setups, and giving the technology a better shot at wider adoption.
Passthrough is an augmented reality effect that makes objects in the ‘virtual’ world appear as if they are in your ‘real world’ vision: for example, a live cam model appearing as if they are in your living room. Passthrough technology uses cameras found in higher-end VR headsets to capture your real surroundings, then mixes these live captures with virtual elements.
SexLikeReal said that the rollout of the new AI passthrough technology would begin on the platform on April 7.
Alex Novak, founder of SexLikeReal, says that the AI function “intelligently identifies and removes backgrounds while keeping the model sharp and perfectly defined” in real-time.
Streams with the new functionality available will have a dedicated AI passthrough icon in the DeoVR app that can be used to watch content on the platform. The passthrough effect will be able to be turned on and off through this icon.
Since launching back in the depths of 2015 SexLikeReal (NSFW) has achieved great success as a VR porn platform, partly due to frequently launching innovations such as its AI passthrough functions.
Earlier in 2025 the platform launched SLR For Women, the platform’s first dedicated vertical for VR porn from a female perspective, in a bid to broaden its appeal further.
The company is also looking into potentially releasing haptic electrical stimulation devices, as it moves towards launching its own interactive sextech products.
