A large part of the VR porn industry is being driven by hentai and CGI VR porn, a 2024 user data trends report by the [very much NSFW] VR porn aggregator and tube site VRPorn.com suggests.
The site recently released its wrap-up of viewing trends from 2024 (remember that far back?) in a style similar to Pornhub’s long-running Year in Review data insights. ‘Hentai’ was the most searched term on Pornhub globally in 2024, and it seems like the popularity of animated porn is currently mirrored in adult virtual reality trends too..
According to VRPorn.com, in 2024 the most popular category on the site after the 8K resolution category was Anal, followed by Hentai, and then CGI.
While hentai is Japanese and manga-style animated porn, CGI porn usually features 3D renders of characters. Some in the latter category are designed to be realistic, showing office scenes, for example,while others are made in a more out-there fantasy style, with brash or lurid graphics.
VRporn.com’s data release also showed category popularity, ranked by user gender. For male users of the site, the top three categories were Hentai, CGI and Japanese, followed by the 8K resolution category then Anal.
For female VRPorn.com users the top category was Japanese, followed by Hentai then CGI. 8K and Anal completed the top five.
The 8K category was listed as the most popular across all users, despite the Hentai and CGI categories being above 8K in the data charts for both men and women. VRPorn.com told SEXTECHGUIDE that this was because most users don’t identify their gender on the site, so gender-based data is based on a smaller user pool.
Immersion > Realism
Regardless of potential data discrepancies, Hentai and CGI are clearly a huge driving force for VR porn content on the site, which also includes many CGI VR porn games. To some this may initially seem surprising, as for many people the appeal of VR porn is in its realism. These animation-focused data insights could be interpreted as suggesting that it is immersion, rather than realism, that is a more crucial factor for many VR porn users.
The data insights also suggested that VR porn may be a relatively young person’s game, perhaps because it requires adopting technology that’s relatively new to homes. The 18-24 age range took up nearly 31 percent of VRPorn.com users, with the 25-34 age range next in the chart, with just over 21.3 percent of users. From there, as ages went up, user numbers continued to decrease.
It was also revealed that the country in which users spend most time on VRPorn.com, on average, was Monaco. We don’t really know where to begin when speculating on the reasons for that. Decline in casino quality?
