VR adult live camming platform Dreamcam has launched a live AI-powered voice-to-text translation function, potentially opening up interactive camming reach further across countries and regions.
Live voice-to-text translation hasn’t been in the norm on camming platforms, VR or otherwise, with some users relying on browser extensions for speech-to-text translation. Some platforms allow basic translation in text chat messages from users to cammers.
Dreamcam’s translation function integrates translation directly into both VR and non-VR streams, converting speech to on-screen captions in real-time. It works for performers speaking to fans and vice-versa, when a performer’s settings allow users permission to speak to them.
The move removes the need for extensions or other translation workarounds and, crucially for a platform built around immersion, keeps the whole thing hands-free. A Dreamcam spokesperson said that language had been a “key barrier between performers and global audiences”.
Indeed, plenty of cam performers are based in Eastern Europe and Latin America but have largely English-speaking audiences. SEXTECHGUIDE has asked Dreamcam which languages are supported and will update when we hear back.
The function is an evolution of Dreamcam’s voice-to-text feature, which was launched in 2022 to allow users to communicate with VR cammers hands-free. It was rolled out to help users avoid the perennial problem of being ‘taken out of the moment’ during camming sessions if forced to fiddle around with controls.
The Dreamcam spokesperson said that “while AI translation itself is not new, its use in real-time, interactive VR environments is a fresh approach.” They added that translation would allow performers to “engage with a broader international audience, increasing their potential user base significantly.”
Streamlining the VR cam experience has become something of a pattern for Dreamcam lately. The platform recently started offering 6K passthrough VR porn directly through a web browser, cutting out the app install step that trips up a lot of potential users.
