Almost half of Pornhub’s gay porn viewers are now female, according to a new data dump from the world’s biggest porn site.
In its new Pride Insights 2026 report, Pornhub said that 49.7 percent of the site’s gay porn viewers were female while 50.3 percent were identified as male. That female percentage was up from 47 percent in 2025 and 43 percent in 2024, having risen steadily across at least the past three reported years.
Pornhub releases reams of data insights about its gay porn content for Gay Pride every June, as an offshoot of its main end-of-year data insights report. The most striking recent trend in the gay insights has been the rise of female interest in gay porn. If the trend holds, the 2027 report could be the one where female viewers cross the majority line.

There hasn’t been much scientific research into why women are comprising a larger amount of the gay porn viewership pie, for some reason. Some academics have posed theories about the appeal of the genre to women, though.
Lucy Neville surveyed hundreds of women for her 2018 book Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys: Women and Gay Male Pornography and Erotica. One of Neville’s findings was straightforward: a significant number of women watch gay porn because it’s an effective way to watch men in explicitly sexual scenarios, without the relational dynamics that heterosexual porn typically centers.
There are also theories around the appeal for women of porn in which women don’t feature, so can’t view themselves as the potential subject of the sex acts on screen. The prevalence of violent and degrading content in mainstream heterosexual porn is well documented, and it’s not difficult to see why a genre in which women don’t appear, and therefore can’t be positioned as the subject of that treatment, holds genuine appeal, including for survivors of sexual abuse.
How high can the percentage go? Will we get to the point where men are overwhelmingly the minority in terms of gay porn viewership split? Will this demographic split start affecting how gay porn directors pitch their content? 2027 could be a fascinating year for Pornhub’s big Gay Pride data release.
Rise of the femboys (and twinks)
The other notable finding is the enduring dominance of femboys and twinks, gay slang for feminine men and young or youthful men respectively.
The most-searched-for gay term on Pornhub in June this year was ‘femboy’, followed by ‘twink’. Pornhub released its data insights well before the end of June, so the data doesn’t show a complete picture for the month, but the site claims to be showing a snapshot for the month.
‘Twink’ has been the most-viewed gay category on Pornhub in 2026, so it’s not surprising that it’s been popular during Pride Month. Some of the other entries in the top search terms list are worth a second look.
The sixth most-searched-for gay term in June 2026 was ‘furry’, while ‘massage’ was 13th in the list. ‘Straight guys first time’ was number four, while ‘Straight friends experiment’ was in at number 18.
The state of Pornhub’s coverage
Pornhub also breaks down the most-viewed gay categories by state.
‘Bareback’ is the biggest gay search term in states including California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. The search term ‘black’ dominates in states including Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. ‘Big dick’ rules as a search term in Vermont and New Hampshire.

The more telling element of the state map is how much of the US Pornhub is now officially unavailable in. Aylo, Pornhub’s parent company, has now blocked its porn sites in around half of US states, claiming that new age verification rules are making it impossible for them to operate properly legally.
Whether the state map looks even sparser by Pride 2027 depends on how Aylo’s legal strategy plays out, and on whether the device-level verification push it has lobbied for gains any traction with legislators who currently prefer site-level blocking. US lawmakers have given no indication they’re retreating on age verification. If anything, the legislative direction is the opposite.
