Why?

A new range of underwear that can be used to stream video on when viewed from your phone has been released, featuring the tagline:  “The world’s newest streaming platform is your bum.”

‘Streaming undies’ are made by the Maison Pixel company, cost $22, and are available as green briefs or g-strings. They work on the principle of green screen technology: when viewed on your phone when using a specific Instagram filter, whatever video you’re streaming on your phone shows up on the green area of the underwear.

To access the filter, which is called Streaming Pixels, once you’ve got the underwear head to Maison Pixel’s Instagram page (@maisonpixel). You can find Streaming Pixels by searching for it there, in the ‘browse effects’ tab, or through the filters tab.

The result is the impression of turning someone’s crotch (or backside) area into a video screen. It’s pure gimmick, of course, but Maison Pixel said that the undies made a point about people being too focused on their phones these days, often at the expense of their sex lives. This product arguably combines the two.

A Maison Pixel spokesperson told SEXTECHGUIDE: “While you can watch whatever you are streaming live via the Stories menu on the panties, the idea is precisely to let creativity flow and let users mess up with it, come up images or videos of whatever they might find creative, funny or kinky projected in a pair of underwear on a bum.”

They added: “You can record a kinky video and send it over to someone (based on adult consensual relations, obviously), or you can just do funny stuff like pretending to be playing video game.”

Realistically, no-one is going to buy these with the aim of sitting down to watch Apocalypse Now on their partner’s genital shroud, through their phone. But it’s a fun gift that could lead to sexy encounters (you could stream something racy on them…), from a company with strong quirky product form.

Maison Pixel’s previous main product was a range of ‘pixelated underwear’: undercrackers that looked like they were drawn from large blocky pixels, that became popular among gamers and some game-focused cammers.

Sebastião Teixeira and Cesária Martins, Maison Pixel’s founders, said they’d “seen big fashion brands using pixels, perhaps even inspired by our work, for their new collections. As an indie brand, with much smaller budgets than them, this can be very challenging. But we believe that through creativity and innovation, we can continue to carve out our space in this market.”

They added: “The launch of our new collection, which turns underwear into a streaming platform, is an exciting step towards achieving this.”
