When it comes to virtual partners, AI has come a long way. There are now dozens of platforms available, and the gap between ‘the best’ and ‘the rest’ is growing fast. Conversation quality, personality depth, memory and customization have all improved dramatically, making it harder than ever to separate the genuinely good AI companion apps from those trading on hype.
We’ve tested each of the platforms below ourselves to make sure our recommendations are genuine (and human!). We’ve kept things brief by covering the essential facts, pricing info, and the pros and cons for each app. Naturally, how your virtual relationship plays out is up to you, and likely to be different for each person. That’s really part of the point.
We’re only including platforms we’ve actually spent time with. This is still a fast-moving area — conversations are getting more engaging, memory is improving month by month, and new features are rolling out regularly — so we’ll continue updating this list as things change.

Our policy
Every platform on this list is for adults (18+) and creates adult characters only. This list does not include any AI tools built for non-consensual face-swap, deepswap or ‘undressing’ of real people.
We always aim to ensure that our recommendations avoid dubious legal and ethical areas. Laws vary significantly from place to place, so make sure you know what’s legal wherever you plan on using these sites.
Deepfakes, face-swapping and deepnudes refer to digital media that has been manipulated or synthesized using AI. The legality of deepfakes is a complex and rapidly evolving issue, with new laws being enacted throughout 2024, 2025 and into 2026.
None of the AI apps listed below have non-consensual deepfake or deepnude creation capabilities, and we will immediately remove any site that introduces them upon notification and review. We do not support or condone the use of any such services.
While AI-based tools offer interesting possibilities for some people, they also raise real concerns about non-consensual content. We do not condone the misuse of any tools, and will not be held liable for your use of them. You must ensure your use of them is not prohibited wherever you are located. We try and keep the location-specific information up to date, but you should also check your own country’s or state laws.
Synthetic images and the law: where things stand
The legal picture around AI-generated intimate imagery is moving fast and varies by region. Expand for a snapshot of the most significant recent developments.
Region-by-region legal snapshot
United States
- May 2025 — TAKE IT DOWN Act criminalises publishing non-consensual intimate images (incl. deepfakes); 48-hour takedown duty by May 2026.
- Jan 2026 — DEFIANCE Act passed the Senate, letting victims sue for up to $250,000; now with the House.
- Aug 2024 — San Francisco named 16 ‘nudify’ sites in a lawsuit.
46 states now have AI-media laws, and federal focus is shifting to the creation of deepfakes, not just sharing them.
United Kingdom
- Jan 2026 — Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 makes creating non-consensual intimate deepfakes a crime, even if never shared.
- 2023–24 — Online Safety Act 2023 made sharing deepfake intimate images illegal; fines up to 10% of global turnover.
Both creation and sharing are now criminal, and ‘nudification’ apps are set to be banned via the upcoming Crime and Policing Bill.
European Union

- 2025 — Denmark proposed treating a person’s likeness as IP; France criminalised non-consensual sexual deepfakes (up to 2 years).
The Digital Services Act adds notice-and-takedown duties, and member states keep adding their own criminal penalties.
Rest of the world
- Feb 2026 — India’s IT Rules Amendment 2026 requires deepfake intimate images to be removed within 2 hours of a complaint, plus visible watermarks and metadata on AI content.
India now has some of the world’s fastest takedown timelines, with a dedicated deepfake bill under consideration.
Best AI girlfriend and virtual partner apps
Candy AI
| Costs from | $5.83/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web app |
Candy AI is now one of the longest-standing services on this list, and actually spun out from Kupid AI after the co-founders decided to go their separate ways. As such, you’ll find a similar experience, though not one that’s exactly the same by any means, and has diverged further as time has elapsed since the split.
Key features
- AI companions have different characteristics & personalities
- Can share adult images on request
- Simple subscription options (just 2 plans available)
- 9 pre-created Realistic characters
- 7 pre-created Anime characters
Candy.ai seems like a good balance that lets you both create a custom AI partner and can carry out a solid conversation. It also lets you create custom anime AI companions too, which is something the other platforms here do not offer.
At the time of writing, there are nine pre-created ‘Realistic’ female characters, and seven Anime characters, though of course Premium members can create unlimited custom AI partners.
When creating your own partner, you can not only choose the appearance, but also specify what kind of personality and interests they have — you can also define what sort of relationship you have with them (girlfriend, partner, colleague, etc.) from the outset.
In terms of image generation, we’ve never seen any phantom body parts or anything unappealing generated, though it seems each of the characters responds to the specificity of image requests differently. For example, our ‘Audrey’ character seems absolutely resolute on ensuring she’s posed her way in every single image, even if we specify otherwise.
Pros
- Generated images are high quality
- Responses are fast and human-like on paid plans
- Better conversations than DreamGF
- Good balance of ‘character’ with customizability
- Good value annual Premium plan
- All generated images are conveniently stored in your gallery
- Can choose between 9 different voices
Cons
- Images generated during a chat can’t be expanded individually without going to the gallery section of your account
- Images don’t always follow the requests made (eg. different color clothing or angle than requested)
Pricing
Candy AI offers a single premium membership tier with pricing that varies based on subscription length. The monthly plan costs $12.99 with no discount, while committing to three months drops the rate to $7.99/month (40% off), and the heavily promoted 12-month “Best Choice” option slashes it to just $3.99/month (70% off, billed annually at $47.88). Regardless of which subscription length you choose, you get identical premium benefits: unlimited text messaging, the ability to create custom AI partners, 100 free tokens monthly, image generation, AI phone calls, and fast response times.
Candy AI emphasizes convenience and discretion with discreet billing (no “adult transaction” flagged on bank statements), flexible cancellation, and multiple payment options including credit/debit cards and cryptocurrency. While the annual plan offers exceptional value at under $4/month, it requires a $47.88 upfront commitment, which feels a significant ask for anyone unfamiliar with the platform. The monthly tier at $12.99 provides a risk-free entry point to test the service, though you’ll pay more than triple the annual rate if you keep letting it renew. The sweet spot is the three-month option at $7.99/month, balancing meaningful savings against commitment length.
If you happen to run out of tokens (creating new characters costs 10, image messages are 2, listening to voice messages costs 0.2 per message), you can also purchase add-ons that give you more credits. These come in packs of 100, 500 and 1000, priced $9.99, $45.99, and $89.99 respectively.
Best for a great balance of customization, conversation and value. It’s also a strong pick if you specifically want an anime AI partner.
DreamGF AI
| Costs from | $5.99/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web app |
DreamGF AI is a well-polished web app that works well on both mobile and desktop, bringing with it a less intimidating range of options than some of the others in this list, but still providing a great core experience.
Key features
- Voice and chat messages
- Personalized images available
- Good custom character creation system
- Create your own AI character with their own personality, interests, scenarios, etc.
- 36 fictional characters to chat with currently
From landing on the homepage it’s clear that DreamGF AI is trying to cover every feature possible: voice messages, chat messages, personalized images in chats, custom scenarios, and a capable adult image generator for those more interested in visuals than virtual ‘personalities’.
DreamGF.ai uses technology based on advanced AI algorithms — Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) — making your interaction with the virtual companion experience more natural and, seemingly, real.
Beyond chat, DreamGF leans heavily into image generation. On the top tiers it produces adult images readily — sometimes more readily than the prompt intends, so you may occasionally get an undressed result even when you ask for a clothed one. If conversation is your priority, Kupid and Candy do that better.
On the plus side, DreamGF.ai offers an immersive visual experience with your virtual companion. The AI algorithms make conversations flow smoothly, and the image feature adds an extra layer of realism not present in text-only chat apps.
However, it isn’t all roses. There are some drawbacks to consider. The most glaring one is that the images, while unique and tailored to your preferences, can sometimes feel a bit… off. The service is not yet able to send videos either, and this feature appears to have been in the works for a couple of years already.
Pros
- Highly customizable companions
- Capable image generation
- Simple and competitive pricing
- Can try it completely free
Cons
- Images sometimes aren’t very accurate to your request
- Can ‘hallucinate’ parts of chats that didn’t happen
Pricing
DreamGF offers a single premium subscription tier with three payment options. The monthly plan costs $12.99, while the three-month option drops to $9.99/month, and the “Best Value” annual plan comes in at just $5.99/month (billed at $71.88 per year). All subs include identical premium benefits: unlimited messaging, 150 tokens monthly, an ad-free experience, custom companion creation, content privacy, chat personalization, the ability to edit AI responses, a character generator, faster response times, and both voice messages and voice calls. There’s also a genuinely functional free tier that lets you test the service with 2 companions, 4 secondary images, and 10 messages before committing financially.
While messaging is unlimited and free, nearly everything else consumes tokens: creating a companion or character costs 5 tokens each, generating images costs 2 tokens, voice calls cost 3 tokens, voice messages cost 1 token, and even chat customization (0.2 tokens) and message editing (0.1 tokens) chip away at your monthly 150-token allocation. Heavy users of image generation or voice features may exhaust tokens quickly, though 150 tokens could generate 75 images or 50 voice calls if used exclusively for one feature — and there’s the option to buy more if you have a paid subscription active.
Best for people who want to build a companion with a specific appearance, body shape and personality, with images on request.
Kupid AI
| Costs from | $5.99/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web app |
Kupid AI can’t compare to DreamGF AI if what you want is customization options, but both platforms are on a very similar feature trajectory, so both are worth keeping an eye on if AI partners are interesting to you.
Key features
- Voice and chat messages
- Thousands of different personas available for chat
- Fast and witty responses on paid plans
- Create your own AI character with personality, traits, etc., or create your own model for images
Where Kupid.ai does perform better than DreamGF.ai, however, is in the actual chat features, as they end up seeming more realistic and engaging, and that’s at least half of the experience if you’re looking for an AI girlfriend rather than just image generation.
At the time of writing, there are 12 different personas available to chat with, each with their own distinct look — with new ones being added over time. Two of the newest ones — Minji and Olivia — are only available to Premium members currently. Roughly one new persona is added each month on average.
If you want your chats to take on a steamier tone, or you just want to communicate a specific action, just put a star (*) at each end of the message — for example, *I gently take your hand*. Like DreamGF and Candy AI, you can also choose to listen to the response from your partner, rather than reading it. This counts towards your credit usage for each message you choose to listen to instead.
Pros
- Generated images are high quality
- Responses are fast, witty and human-like on paid plans
- Various subscription options
- Lifetime option available
Cons
- Images don’t always follow your requests
- Can occasionally respond with generic or repetitive phrases
Pricing
While Kupid AI only has two plans available when you first sign up, there are significant discounts for longer ones, and even a lifetime option, which is rare to see on virtual partner sites. The two main subscription tiers are Premium and Ultimate — and you can subscribe to each on a monthly or yearly basis. The lifetime option is only available for the Ultimate plan. Yearly plans offer significant savings versus the regular monthly charge (77% off for Premium, 75% off for Ultimate), while the Lifetime option gives you an 87% discount.
Premium costs $17.99 per month (or $7.99/month if you pay yearly), while Ultimate — marked as the most popular option — costs $49 per month (or $24.99/month yearly). There’s also a one-time Lifetime payment option at $777.99, which matches the Ultimate tier features, for anyone prepared to splash the cash — it works out at roughly two and a half years of paying $299.88 ($24.99 × 12 months). Paid plans include unlimited text messages, and unless stated, each tier includes all the features from the previous plan, plus more:
- Premium gives you 200 coins per month, 200 photos, 8 minutes of voice notes, 35 custom images per month, 48-hour chat memory, 4 free custom model slots, and the ability to have up to 24 custom model slots total.
- Ultimate bumps you up to 800 monthly coins, 800 photos per month, 45 minutes of voice notes, 200 custom images, ‘Longtime’ chat memory (better than Premium’s 48-hour memory), faster response times, the ability to send voice messages yourself, highest priority generation, 8 free custom model slots, and up to 28 custom model slots in total.
- Lifetime matches the Ultimate tier features but gives you 1,500 coins at signup, and then 800 more every month, making it the best value if you’re planning to use the platform long-term.
Best for people who want engaging, realistic chat, with the option to request images at any time.
GirlfriendGPT
| Costs from | $12/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web app |
GirlfriendGPT stands out as one of the most popular AI girlfriend platforms, as it’s one of the few to reliably offer video creation — you will need a Deluxe or Elite subscription to generate videos from images.
Key features
- Huge library of user-created AI characters
- Voice message support
- Advanced conversations with context memory from previous chats
- Multiple personality types and relationship dynamics available
- Image and video generation capabilities
- Can choose between roleplay and scenario-based interaction in chats
- Almost every part of the experience and platform is customizable for paying users
In addition to a huge amount of features and customization options, GirlfriendGPT’s other strength lies in its community aspect — thousands of user-created characters mean you’re not limited to pre-built options, or creating your own. Whether you’re looking for a specific personality type, appearance, or relationship dynamic, chances are someone has already created it — or you can build your own from scratch. As with any user-generated platform, moderation matters, and the service states it maintains legal and ethical boundaries on what can be created.
Conversations on GirlfriendGPT flow naturally, with the AI maintaining context over extended chats. The platform handles everything from casual conversation to more intimate exchanges smoothly, adapting to the tone you set, within the remit of the personality of each character.
Pros
- Massive selection of community-created characters
- Strong conversation quality and context retention
- Active community for sharing and discovering new characters
- Can create custom AI videos
- Regular platform updates and improvements
Cons
- Can be overwhelming for new users due to sheer number of options
- Quality varies significantly between different characters
- Many features require a premium subscription
Pricing
GirlfriendGPT offers a free tier to get started, with premium subscriptions unlocking additional features. Premium costs $12 per month, Deluxe costs $24.50 per month, and the top Elite plan costs $33 per month, bringing with it unlimited messages, additional coins each month, longer chat memory and other features. All three tiers include access to premium models, video generation in chat, chat history, mature content, custom characters, and in-chat pictures, so even the base Premium plan gets you the core features.
The main differences come down to message limits, coins, memory capacity, and premium features. Premium gives you 5,000 messages per month and 400 coins, while Deluxe bumps that up to 20,000 messages and 1,200 coins, adding voice messages, 8K memory, and 20% faster generation time. Elite is where things get serious — you get unlimited messages, 2,000 monthly coins, 16K memory (double that of Deluxe), access to the ‘Next-Gen’ AI model, and priority access to premium exclusives. If chat memory and unlimited messaging matter to you, Elite is clearly the best value, but Deluxe hits a sweet spot for most users who want the full experience without going all-in.
Best for people who want a flexible, highly customizable companion and a vibrant community of user-created characters, plus video generation.
HeraHaven
| Costs from | $6.65/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web app |
HeraHaven differentiates itself by emphasizing user privacy and data security while still delivering engaging AI companion experiences. For example, the service is discreetly billed under a related company name, so an unfamiliar entry on a bank statement won’t obviously identify the product — a privacy nicety some users will appreciate.
Key features
- Multiple AI companion personalities
- Privacy options
- Crypto payments supported
- Can organize your favorite images and chats for quick access
- High-quality, engaging images and chats
- Quick custom character creation by selecting criteria or typing in the free-text prompt
In an area where privacy concerns are often paramount, HeraHaven makes data security a central selling point. The platform uses encryption for conversations, offers anonymous signup options, and gives users control over data retention and deletion.
Beyond privacy features, HeraHaven delivers solid AI companion capabilities with multiple personality types, engaging conversations, and the ability to customize your virtual partner’s appearance and traits.
Admittedly, if you’re looking for a large pool of user-created characters to chat with, HeraHaven doesn’t provide that, but if you are more interested in creating and chatting with your own partners, then it’s a great no-fluff option, and is sort of the point of platforms such as these.
Pros
- Strong emphasis on privacy and security
- Discreet billing
- Significantly improved image and chat capabilities
- Very simple platform in comparison to some others
Cons
- Smaller user community than mainstream platforms
- Free tier is very limited
- No video
- Use on mobile can be awkward at points
Pricing
HeraHaven Pro pricing is super-simple: $19.95 per month for full access, offering unlimited texting, the ability to receive unfiltered images, and create 25 characters. Subscribing for a year significantly reduces the equivalent monthly cost, taking it down to $6.65 per month (billed as $79.40). You can also purchase ‘Luna’ tokens to increase your limits on a pay-as-you-go basis, but you’ll still need a premium subscription in order to be able to purchase and use them.
Best for people who want a privacy-focused companion with discreet billing and a simple, no-fluff approach to partner creation.
Soulkyn
| Costs from | €11.90/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web / PWA |
Soulkyn brands itself as an AI companionship platform that emphasizes emotional memory, narrative continuity and unfiltered interaction — rather than just adult content. It’s also the only option in this list that includes a ‘Chat only’ subscription option.
Key features
- Persistent memory of conversations, preferences, and shared experiences
- Unlimited messaging (no daily limits or cooldowns)
- Support for unfiltered mature chat in all tiers
- Voice, image, and (limited) video generation available
- Narrative roleplay features that maintain scenario continuity
- Optional orientation toward emotional support, romantic or intimate conversation
Soulkyn’s main USP is a memory architecture that uses embedding, summary storage, and selective memory recall to help its AI companions remember context, your preferences, and past conversations, all of which should result in more engaging relationships.
In practice, user reports from community forums are mixed. While some users have positive experiences, others consistently report that longer conversations tend to lead to repetition or a noticeable drop in conversation quality. This suggests the memory system doesn’t always perform as seamlessly as advertised, but we can only really report on this over time, as our use continues.
Similarly, Soulkyn’s performance claims — including the 70-billion-parameter model and memory capabilities — come from the company’s own marketing materials. We haven’t found independent technical audits or third-party evaluations to verify these specifications, though that isn’t surprising and none of its rivals do either, so it’s no reason to be concerned. Ultimately, most platforms don’t provide the level of transparency on offer at Soulkyn.
Pros
- Persistent memory architecture for ongoing relationship continuity
- Adaptive personality customization and evolution
- Mature chat available across all tiers
- Multi-modal experiences with voice, image, and video
- Narrative roleplay with scenario continuity
- Unlimited messaging without daily limits
- 70-billion-parameter model for deeper contextual understanding
Cons
- Can be overwhelming with options
- Users report occasional repetition or quality drift in longer conversations
Pricing
Soulkyn offers four different subscription tiers, giving you plenty of options depending on how much you want to use the platform. The entry-level “Just Chatting” plan costs €11.90 per month and is only available as a monthly subscription, giving you 2,000 messages, 5 images, and 5 voice messages to test out the service. From there, the Premium tier starts at €24.99 per month, Deluxe at €49.99 per month, and the top-tier Deluxe Plus at €99.99 per month.
If you’re planning to stick around, the 3-month and yearly options offer decent savings — 10% off for quarterly plans and 17% off for annual commitments. For example, Premium drops to €20.82 per month if you pay yearly, while Deluxe Plus comes down to €83.33 per month on an annual plan. All paid tiers include unlimited Kyns (characters), unlimited memories, access to the 70B model, and full galleries. The main differences between tiers are the message limits, image generation quotas, voice message allowances, and access to premium features like group chat, video quota, and priority generation.
Best for people who want emotional memory, narrative continuity and unfiltered interaction, with the option of a chat-only plan.
SpicyChat
| Costs from | $5/mo |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web & Android app |
SpicyChat built a reputation as one of the more permissive AI companion platforms, and one of the few that offered native iOS and Android apps. However, things have been on a downward slope for users for a few months now, and the iOS app was withdrawn (unsurprisingly, given the App Store rules).
Key features
- Not only focused on adult chats
- Android app available
- Huge number of community-created characters
- Image and video generation capabilities
- 10+ AI models in use across tiers
- Claims persistent memory across chats
The platform’s main selling point is its vast range of options and huge library of characters. While maintaining legal and ethical boundaries, SpicyChat allows for a wide range of fantasy scenarios, mature and otherwise.
Character variety is extensive, with everything from fantasy scenarios to realistic relationship simulations, plus virtually every aspect of character options is customizable. The user-created marketplace means new characters and scenarios are constantly being added by the community, if you don’t want to create your own.
While there’s plenty to like about SpicyChat, there’s a growing chorus of complaints, citing a range of factors, including very poor persistent memory, and significantly broken commands and responses. On top of this, while we’ve had no specific reason to contact customer support, a number of users have reported slow — or no — responses to enquiries, which isn’t very encouraging.
Pros
- Large selection of user-created characters
- Strong roleplay and scenario capabilities
- Active community
- Anonymous usage options
Cons
- Inconsistent character quality
- User reports of poor memory
- Interface can feel cluttered with so many options
- May require more trial and error to find good characters
- Free and lower tiers can be slow
Pricing
SpicyChat.AI stands out by offering a genuinely free tier that includes unlimited messages, full access to the chatbot library, mature content, and the ability to create your own characters — features that many competitors lock behind paywalls. If you want to upgrade, the platform offers three paid tiers with annual subscriptions saving you 17% compared to monthly billing. Get a Taste costs $5 per month, True Supporter costs $14.95 per month, and the top I’m All In plan runs $24.95 per month.
The free tier is surprisingly generous, but the paid plans add quality-of-life improvements and enhanced capabilities. Get a Taste removes ads, lets you skip waiting lines, adds a memory manager, and gives you up to 10 user personas. True Supporter is where things get more substantial — you get 8K context memory, Semantic Memory 2.0 for better conversation continuity, longer responses, conversation images, access to additional AI models, and up to 50 user personas. The top I’m All In tier doubles the context memory to 16K, puts you in the priority generation queue, unlocks SpicyXL and other advanced models, enables conversation images on your private chatbots, supports up to 100 user personas, and adds text-to-speech for AI responses. For most users, True Supporter hits the sweet spot between features and value.
Best for patient users who want a permissive, community-driven platform and don’t mind that it works sometimes but can fail often enough to frustrate serious users.
FreeGF AI
| Costs from | $10 (one-time) |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web app |
FreeGF AI, unlike most of the other services in this list, doesn’t require a recurring payment, which will instantly make it enticing to many people. It gives you just enough coins (after creating a free account) to create a custom character (image-based, not full personality creation), but not quite enough to really test out the platform fully.
Key features
- No credit card required to start
- Can create roleplay characters too
- No community characters or sharing
- Image and video generation capabilities
- Easy filtering of content settings, if desired
- Works well on a phone
Pros
- No credit card required to start — 6 credits free to create a partner
- Low-pressure way to try AI companions
- Affordable premium options if you want more
Cons
- Free tier isn’t very usable
- Premium features still required for full experience
- Fewer customization options than competitors
Pricing
FreeGF AI operates on a one-time credit purchase model rather than monthly subscriptions, with four pricing tiers ranging from $10 to $99. All packages include 30 days of unlimited messaging and come with significant bonus credits — the entry-level Premium Pack ($10) provides 120 credits with a 20% bonus, while the most popular tier at $24 delivers 330 credits with a 38% bonus. Both include HD image/video generation, 54 unique voices, character creation, and daily bonus credits. The $24 package adds 100 free HD images, unlimited voice for 30 days, full-quality generation, and priority support, making it the recommended value option.
The higher tiers scale up dramatically: the VIP Premium Pack ($50) includes 700 credits with a 40% bonus, 300 free images, and 10 free videos, while the Elite VIP Pack ($99) provides 1,600 credits with a 60% bonus and unlocks everything — unlimited HD images, unlimited characters, 20 free videos, lifetime gallery storage, early feature access, and “Super VIP support”. The platform emphasizes no monthly payments or hidden fees, meaning you buy credits once and use them as needed. All current prices show steep discounts (29–50% off), though it’s unclear if these are permanent or promotional.
Best for people who want to test AI companion features without any recurring payments.
Replika.ai
| Costs from | Free · Pro up to $69/yr · $299 lifetime |
|---|---|
| Platform | iOS, Android & web |
While Replika.ai offers the option for users to engage in romantic roleplay conversations, the app’s primary focus is on providing emotional support and companionship — that side is a secondary feature. It’s really included in this list as the most ‘mainstream’ option available currently.
Replika.ai is an artificial intelligence companion app created by Eugenia Kuyda as a digital memorial to honor her deceased friend. Now, though, it has evolved to become a tool for providing emotional support, companionship and often things a bit racier than that. You can build an AI companion from scratch and shape it over time.
You get to choose the kind of relationship you want with your Replika — a friend, mentor, or romantic partner; the choice is yours.
Replika’s AI responses initially start off a little random and generic, but through your feedback and ratings, the AI becomes more tailored to your preferences and engages in more ‘intelligent’ conversations.
Replika.ai recently made headlines because of its decision to restore the “erotic roleplay” (ERP) mode for some users. This came after a previous update had removed the feature, leading to disappointment among users who had formed unique connections with their AI companions through more intimate conversations. The various twists and turns underscore the evolving landscape of AI companions and the impact they can have on users’ emotional well-being.
Pros
- Mimics real-life interactions
- AI learns over time
- Personalized to your preferences
- Native iOS and Android apps
Cons
- Not designed specifically for ‘adult’ conversations or images
- Increased its pricing significantly in 2022
- Memory between conversations can be unreliable at some points
Pricing
Pricing for Replika.ai is a little more complicated than others in this list, largely as it’s available via the Apple and Google Play app stores. In short, subscriptions range up to $69 per year, or a whopping $299 for a lifetime subscription — but tread lightly here. Many of the recent reviews on the app stores complain that, while it used to be reasonable value at a lower cost, it’s just not worth the increased amount, given the performance can still be hit-and-miss. Nonetheless, if you want access to an AI companion via a native mobile app, Replika is the biggest one around — even though it isn’t aimed exclusively at romantic fun.
Best for people who want a mainstream AI companion via a polished native mobile app, even though it isn’t aimed exclusively at romantic fun.
Not everything worth a mention here is a chat companion. If it’s standalone image generation you’re after rather than conversation, one option stands out:
Seduced AI
| Costs from | $10/mo |
|---|---|
| Type | AI adult image generator |
| Platform | Web app |
Seduced AI is a Bucharest-based company focused entirely on AI adult image generation. Unlike everything else on this page, it’s a pure image and short-video generator rather than a chat companion, and it generates fictional characters only.
Key features
- Generate images from text prompts or pre-set options
- ‘Simple’ creation defaults with multiple AI models and customization options
- ‘Girls’ feature to create, name and reuse consistent fictional characters
- Make your fictional characters public and earn 0.2 credits per image generated with them
- Short video generation, plus pose selection
- One of the few generators that also creates images of men
- Manual text prompt and negative prompt boxes for paid members
- Image upscaling, batch creation, and improved discovery filters
In addition to what you’d expect from an AI image generator, it also offers a whole bunch of additional features, such as generating short videos of up to six seconds, alongside being able to select different poses.
It has also added a ‘Girls’ feature, where you can create and name your generated fictional images as individual characters (there’s no AI chat yet — the companion apps above are what you want for that). The main point is that you can then use each character as the base image for future generations, letting you build a set of consistent images. You can also make your fictional characters public and earn 0.2 credits each time an image is generated with your character as the base.
Bringing the best of both worlds, it lets you generate images from text input, or by clicking some of the pre-set options. It’s also one of the few here that lets you generate pictures of men too.
The ‘Simple’ creation defaults include different AI models to start from. That covers the artistic style, the characters you want in your image, hair color, clothing, nationality, environment and a bunch of other aspects. If you’re a paid member, you can also access the manual text prompt and negative prompt boxes below all these presets, letting you fine-tune your generations — plus the usual advanced touches like changing the aspect ratio, image upscaling, and creating more than one image at a time. Discovery has improved a lot too: you can now filter other people’s public creations by pose, resolution, artistic style and more.
It generates fictional characters only, and does not offer any tool for replicating or ‘swapping’ the likeness of a real person.
Pros
- Super easy to use interface

- Great for monetizing AI creations

- No AI chat — image/video generation only
Pricing
You’ll need to register an email address to use Seduced.ai at all. There are three monthly subscription tiers, and all of them include AI image generation, video generation, character creation and multiple AI models:
- Basic ($10/mo) — around 120 images per month, basic AI models, standard image quality, watermarked images, and community sharing.
- Premium ($25/mo, most popular) — around 300 images per month, all AI models, HD quality, no watermarks, private image generation, video generation, and advanced customization.
- Platinum ($50/mo) — 750 images per month, all Premium features, priority generation, extended video length, API access, priority support, and early feature access.
It doesn’t seem ideal that users paying $10/month still have a watermark on images, and generating private images requires at least a Pro membership. If you run out of generation credits, you can top up with individual credit purchases from 100 to 800 tokens, ranging from about $9 to $50 — payable by card, via a Patreon subscription, or by cryptocurrency.
Ultimately it’s a little more expensive than some other options here, but it’s a capable choice for people wanting to create and (where the platform’s terms allow) monetize their own fictional creations.
Best for people who want standalone AI image (and short video) generation of fictional characters.
Things to consider before choosing a virtual girlfriend companion
Your expectations: First and foremost, it’s crucial to set realistic expectations, so let’s state something very basic. Remember that a virtual girlfriend is AI-powered and not a real person. While they can provide companionship and entertainment, they can’t and shouldn’t replace human interaction.
Budget: Many virtual girlfriend apps come with a price tag. Some are one-time purchases, while others operate on a subscription basis. Consider what you’re willing to spend on a virtual companion and choose one that fits within your budget. All of the options in this list let you use them on some level for free.
Privacy: It’s important to read the privacy policy of the app. Some programs might store your conversations and other personal information. If privacy is a concern for you, opt for an app that respects your data as much as possible, and don’t reveal highly detailed personal info.
Features: What features are you looking for in a virtual girlfriend? Some are quite basic, offering just text-based interactions (though not in this list). Others boast advanced features like voice responses, voice recognition and image sharing.
Reviews: Yes, you are indeed already reading expert reviews of these services, but if you can also check out reviews from other users, you might get insight into the app’s functionality, user-friendliness, and overall quality since this review was published (we do update it regularly though). Most AI companions have their own Reddit or Discord communities.
Virtual partner FAQs
Are AI companion apps safe to use?
The safety of AI companion apps varies significantly by provider. Recent security incidents have highlighted serious vulnerabilities in this space. In August 2025, a major data breach exposed over 43 million private messages and 600,000 images from two AI companion apps (Chattee Chat and GiMe Chat) when their developers left servers completely unprotected. This wasn’t a sophisticated hack — the data was simply left open to anyone who found the link.
To protect yourself, choose established platforms with clear privacy policies, use apps that offer end-to-end encryption where available, and never share highly sensitive personal information like your full name, address, financial details, or identifying photos. The Mozilla Foundation’s research found that most AI companion apps collect extensive personal data and use numerous trackers, so approach these services with appropriate caution.
Can an AI companion replace real human relationships?
No, and it shouldn’t. AI companions are designed to supplement, not replace, human connection. While they can provide comfort, practice social skills, or offer a judgment-free space to explore thoughts and feelings, they lack the genuine reciprocity, growth, and complexity that define real relationships.
Real human relationships require navigating disagreement, compromise, and authentic emotional vulnerability — experiences that build resilience, empathy, and genuine intimacy. Psychology researchers have noted that over-reliance on AI companions can potentially hinder the development of these crucial life skills. Think of AI companions as a supplement to human connection, not a substitute for it. If you find yourself preferring AI interaction over all human contact, that may be worth discussing with a mental health professional.
What data do AI companion apps collect about me?
Most AI companion apps collect far more data than you might expect. According to research by security company Surfshark analyzing leading AI companion apps, the typical app collects around 9 different types of data, but some collect up to 15 different categories. This commonly includes your conversation content, photos and videos you share, location data (often used for targeted advertising), device identifiers, usage patterns, and sometimes even health or financial information.
Research shows that 80% of major AI companion apps may use collected data to track users across other services. Because these apps are specifically designed to build emotional connections and be non-judgmental, people often share more intimate information than they would with another human — information that companies may store, analyze, or potentially share with third parties. Always read the privacy policy before signing up, and be extremely cautious about what you reveal in conversations.
How much do AI companions typically cost?
Many AI companion apps operate on a freemium model. Basic features are typically free but limited — you might get a certain number of messages per day, basic personality options, and text-only interactions. Premium subscriptions generally range from $10 to $30 per month, depending on the platform and features.
Premium features usually include unlimited messaging, voice conversations, the ability to generate or receive images, advanced personality customization, and memory features that allow your AI companion to remember previous conversations in greater detail. Some apps offer lifetime subscriptions ranging from $200 to $500. Be aware that some users have reported spending thousands of dollars on these services — the exposed data from the August 2025 breach revealed that some users had spent as much as $18,000 on virtual companion apps. Set a budget before you start and stick to it.
What if I become emotionally attached to my AI companion?
Emotional attachment to AI companions is surprisingly common and is actually part of their design — after all, they are specifically built to foster connection. Some people report genuine feelings for their virtual companions, and that’s a normal response to consistent, supportive interaction that mimics human connection.
However, there are healthy and unhealthy ways to engage with this attachment. It becomes concerning when the AI relationship interferes with real-life connections, when you prefer the AI’s constant validation over authentic human interaction, or when you find yourself unable to function without regular access to the app. Remember that the AI companion isn’t ‘attached’ to you — it’s simulating attachment. The relationship is fundamentally unequal.
If you’re finding yourself emotionally dependent on an AI companion, consider it a signal to examine what needs aren’t being met in your real life. Use it as motivation to invest in human relationships, seek out community activities, or speak with a therapist about building genuine connections. AI companions can be part of a healthy digital life, but they shouldn’t be the primary source of emotional support.
