Following the launch of sex toy design company Biird in 2020, the Namii is among its second-generation toys, which build on innovative suction stimulation and vibration technology.
The Namii is made from smooth body-safe silicone and is fully waterproof. Its USB-connected charging base also doubles up as a gentle mood lamp, which is a nice and somewhat unexpected touch. On the more traditional use side, the clitoral stimulator offers five suction intensities, along with five vibration patterns.
It’s priced at $119 in the US (£99 in the UK, at the time of writing) for the lilac and peach models, with the mint-colored model priced at $129 as it comes with a few extra bits of merch, such as a necklace, metal Bookmark, ‘Jouissance Club’ sticker sheet, and ‘Jouissance Club’ art print. Fans of the brand might already own its first-generation suction toy, the Obii, so the question for some will be whether the Namii is a worthwhile upgrade.
To find out, we’ll delve deeper into the Namii’s aesthetics and functionality to see how it stands out from its predecessors and competitors.
Namii’s Design and Features
Travel lock is a bit too efficientThe Namii has an on-trend design in the shape of an asymmetrical heart, delivering air-pressure suction at one end for the clitoris and/or nipples, and a vibrating motor for the vulva and/or labial area at the other end. As with other toys by Biird, the color of the Namii is from the pastel shade end of the color palette, giving it a contemporary aesthetic. The Namii also has a more ribbed and rounded area which is another signature feature of Biird products.
As with many toys, the Namii has an in-built ‘travel lock’ which means it won’t unexpectedly turn itself on while in transit. The travel lock is the default mode when purchased. To switch on, you press and hold both magnetic charging point buttons at the same time for three seconds until the white LED blinks, but it turned out to be difficult to switch the travel mode off at points, which is essential to use the Namii.
The Namii needs to be charged in the charging base before first use. The light blinks on the charging base when charging and it turns off when fully charged. I had problems getting it to charge for the full two-hour period as the charging base light kept going off.
The toy comes with two functions: suction and vibration which can be used independently or at the same time. To turn it on, press and hold for three seconds. Single press to select one of the five modes available. To turn on the pleasure waves press and hold the ‘O’ button for three seconds. Single press to select one of the five modes available.
To turn on the vibration, press and hold the ‘double wave’ button for three seconds. To activate both the vibration and the pleasure waves modes at the same time, press and hold each of the buttons for three seconds.
Namii review: solo use
Hands-free (great for snacking while self-pleasuring)I found this toy more difficult than usual to get set up and charged. The travel lock was hard to disable as the buttons are quite small and fiddly, and they have the be pressed at the same time. When I finally had it all charged up and ready to use, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet and discreet it was. I could barely hear it at all which is a big positive compared to some of my other vibrating sex toys (including the first-generation biird product Obii), which are all a little loud.
The waves and vibrating patterns of the Namii give a much more textured and layered somatic experience than many other suction toys on the market. To make a direct comparison with the Obii, this toy has much lower and softer rumble vibration patterns, whereas the Obii had more predictable, mid-frequency vibrations.
This is the first vibrating toy that I have used that is hands-free, I was able to easily squeeze my thighs together a little to keep the Namii in place meaning I had my hands available to do other things like eat snacks while self-pleasuring.
Namii review: the verdict
It’ll work for some bodies, but not allThe Namii, as with the earlier Obii, is a great toy for getting your whole clitoral organ aroused. The size of the Namii likely won’t be a perfect fit for all bodies, but it was proportionately suited for the shape of my vulva. Your mileage may vary.
The range and frequencies of each of the vibration and power wave settings were fun and unique and my body responded well to most of the settings. I’d recommend this product to anyone keen to try hands-free vibrators.
