Why?

Following a rollercoaster 2021 that saw OnlyFans earn the scorn of many sex workers due to an explicit content ban reverse-ferret, the creator-led online platform has shaken up its business with a new CEO and logo.

At the end of December 2021, Tim Stokely, who founded OnlyFans in 2016, announced that he was stepping down as CEO of its parent company, Fenix International Limited. He has been replaced by Amrapali Gan, who joined OnlyFans in 2020 and worked as chief marketing and communications officer of the site.

With OnlyFans taking a hit in consumer trust in 2021 after swiftly reversing a proposed ban on explicit content on the site, appointing a new CEO with high-level experience in marketing and brand management may prove a shrewd move. Rival creator sites such as iFans and FanCentro have been attempting to attract porn content creators to their sites following some creators becoming disillusioned with OnlyFans.

In the summer of 2021 OnlyFans announced a ban on explicit content —which had largely led to its huge success— citing pressure from financial organizations. The ban was reversed just days later, following a huge wave of criticism from porn content creators who used OnlyFans.

Tim Stokely announces he’s quitting as OnlyFans’ CEO

Gan, who was 36 when she took the new role and was born in India, said that OnlyFans was “committed to being the safest social media platform in the world”.

In his exit statement outgoing CEO Stokely did not address the site’s trust troubles, or explicitly state why he was stepping down, beyond a few generic lines about focusing on his “next challenge” and “passing the baton”.

He wrote on Instagram: “I’d like to thank all of my colleagues, but the most important thank you is to all of the content creators… you made OnlyFans what it is today.”

Arriving with new CEO Gan is a new OnlyFans logo. The site has ditched its old version, which featured a padlock design, in favour of an arguably more friendly design based on a set of wings.

Despite its recent public relations issues, OnlyFans remains an enormously popular creator site. It has over 170 million registered subscribers and over 1.5 million registered creators. The most popular creators reportedly earn over $100,000 a month on the site.
