Taking inspiration from medical science that uses specific technology for assisting orgasm for people with spinal cord injury, Hot Octopuss is an inclusively-minded brand that champions sex tech for people with disabilities.
It is well-known for bringing this unique type of stimulation to the penis-pleasure market with devices such as the Pulse Solo and the Pulse Duo. The trademarked ‘PulsePlate Technology’ could be described as using ‘piston’-like oscillations to stimulate the frenulum of the penis – which is sometimes known as ‘the clitoris of the penis’.
Introducing the Pulse Queen
The brand’s latest device, the Pulse Queen, is an oscillating clitoral wand that stands out in the vulva-pleasure toy market, as most typically use vibrating technology.
Some avid fans may remember the original version of the Pulse Queen, called Queen Bee, that has since been discontinued. Nevertheless, this upgraded Pulse Queen is made of more body-friendly materials and curved nicely to suit the body’s shape, while keeping the oscillating technology.
“This leads to a unique experience for people who want to take their orgasms to the next level, but it also gives those who struggle with conventional sex and masturbation the chance to once again enjoy pleasure.”
Priced at $99.95, the Pulse Queen fits comfortably within Hot Octopuss’s diverse product line. It stands alongside the similarly-priced Kurve G-spot toy and finds its place between the $129.95 remote-controlled Atom Plus Lux cock ring and the $79.95 Plex with Flex (review) anal vibe.
Pulse Queen Design & Functionality Deep and bassy osccilations
This unique wand comes in a very on-brand dark green and black box along with a silky black travel pouch, instruction booklet, USB charging cable, and warranty sheet.
The toy itself is green, made from silicone and ABS plastic, weighs 6.17oz (75g) and is 2.17 x 2.17 x 7.09 inches (55 x 55 x 180mm), making it a rather large toy for the clitoral style. Nevertheless, this is likely due to the fact that the toy hosts unique technology for a clit device.
PulsePlate Technology
The PulsePlate Technology oscillates at an amplitude between 2.5-3mm and is designed to deliver “deep, bassy, high-amplitude oscillations that penetrate deep into your body”. This fares quite differently from your standard bullet vibe that (depending on the quality) typically offer shallower and higher-frequency vibrations.
Furthermore, Hot Octopuss explains that the Pulse Queen is shaped ergonomically, “to hug your body, whichever position you choose”. This makes it a great toy for people with mobility issues as it doesn’t require too much adjustment if you can simply slot it between your legs.
The shape of the oscillating part of the toy needs to be highlighted, as the Queen Bee was mostly flat in shape, whereas the Pulse Queen offers a pointed tip and rounded edges to give options for the type of intensity you might want.
Waterproof
It is waterproof for those who enjoy pleasure in the shower, bath, or hot tub if you’re so lucky. Fully waterproof devices make it easier for them to be cleaned too, ideally with a special sex toy cleaner, or soap and warm water will do the job. Just make sure you get into the nooks and crevices around the oscillating part to eliminate any bacterial residue.
Vibration Options
The Pulse Queen boasts nine different speeds and seven different vibration modes with adjustable frequencies, which the user can flick through via the buttons on the handle using the volume controls and the circular middle button. The buttons themselves are raised and defined making it easier for the user to know what they’re pressing during use, and great for people who are visually impaired.
Noise Level
For the shy types, or those who live with family or friends, the noise levels are less than 45dB, which is supposedly similar to that of light rain.
Battery Life
Its rechargeable Li-ion 3.7V means the device takes up to 2.5 hours to charge, and only runs for around 40 minutes.
Pulse Queen review: In use Less pressure for more pleasure
First things first, when I discovered that Hot Octopuss were relaunching its clit device, I knew it would create sensations that my body likes.
Deep, low-frequency, high-amplitude really helps with enhancing the pleasure as it helps to bring more blood flow to the genitals, awaken nerve endings that are deeper than the surface, and massage the pelvic floor muscles. I mean what’s not to like.
Obviously, some people do prefer shallower vibes, so if that’s you, maybe check out the Kurve G-spot toy (review) which boasts both treble and bass vibrations for the best of both worlds.
However, if this deeper experience sounds like your kind of vibe, then please read on.
Pros
- I really enjoyed the shape of this device as it can easily be placed in between the thighs, over or under my underwear, as it hugs against the vulva, offering some hands-free exploration.
- What I also found really cool, unlike other clit toys whereby if you increase the volume they can sometimes become buzzier, the Pulse Queen (likely due to the oscillating technology) felt like it created sensations.
Cons
- The only irritating part was when I tried to press the device to my body, the oscillations stopped working – which makes sense as it would be pressing down on the oscillating motor. So I learned quickly that to allow the device to do its thing, it needs less pressure – which can be frustrating if you’re used to grinding on your toys.
The device, while offering deeper sensations, feels really great when slotted underneath underwear and gently pressing the handle over the body to create a rocking motion against the clitoris. I liked the fact that I could adjust the intensity by either placing the tip of the toy or moving it to the broader surface area on the side.
Flicking through each of the settings pleasantly surprised me. I’m normally someone who enjoys a steady vibe, but found the intensity of the patterns to be deep enough that it wasn’t uncomfortable but only added to the variety of experience.
I feel like because the toy does offer deeper sensations, that it did take longer for me to reach orgasm, but in my world – this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The longer and slower and more build up there is, the longer and harder and more powerful the orgasm, which can also lead to multiple orgasms. Or at least a post climactic massage that doesn’t feel too intense.
Nevertheless, for those who want a quickie, this toy might be somewhat of an unwanted edging experience.
Another issue was the charge didn’t last as long as I’d have liked. Having done the worst thing you can do as a sex toy reviewer: I didn’t charge the toy before testing it. Oops. So here’s my warning to you! PSA: Charge your devices before you use them!
Despite the fact that I hadn’t charged the device, I would argue 40 mins usage isn’t that long, considering it takes approximately 20 mins for the clitoris to become fully engorged, not to mention the fact that this toy, by its nature, encourages a slower build up to orgasm with the lower frequency stimulation.
So, if you’re someone who enjoys longer play sessions, particularly with a partner that may involve a stop start type of sexual script, you might find the toy doesn’t last as long as you’d prefer.
Pulse Queen review: The verdict Royal qualities for affordable price
A fantastic toy for those who want a uniquely deep penetrative massaging experience. Equally beneficial for people who want accessible pleasure; even though this Pulse Queen espouses royal qualities with its soft silicone and ergonomic shape, it comes at a fair price point and disability friendly features.
However, you might want to think twice before investing in this toy if you’re someone who prefers a quick fix through shallower vibration stimulation, or if you like to grind on your toys!
