The Womanizer Next Duo pairs an excellent air-pulse clitoral stimulator with a well-designed G-spot shaft, and it brings the three-level depth control from the standalone Womanizer Next to Womanizer’s dual-stimulation line. It’s also bulky, carries seven buttons and costs $239 (£199), and getting it positioned so both halves work at once proved harder than it should be.
Womanizer’s patented Pleasure Air tech first hit the market in 2014, and the “Next” line is the brand’s attempt to move it forward again. I put the Next Duo, a dual clitoral and G-spot stimulator, to the test. Womanizer supplied the unit for this review.
Womanizer Next Duo: Design, features and what’s new
The Next Duo is a rabbit-style dual vibrator with one substitution. Instead of the traditional vibrating “bunny ears,” its clitoral arm uses Womanizer’s Pleasure Air, which stimulates the clitoris with rapid pulses of air rather than touching it.
The Next Duo runs to 195mm (about 7.7 inches) overall, it’s made of body-safe silicone, and it comes in purple, pink or black.
Charging is via the included magnetic cable, and Womanizer quotes 120 minutes of run time from a 120-minute charge. The Next Duo is IPX7 waterproof, so the bath and shower are in play. In the box you get a cotton storage pouch and a second, size M stimulation head. Womanizer recommends a water-based lube on both the shaft and the stimulation head. The waterproofing means you can wash it under the tap, nozzle included.
It also carries over Smart Silence, which stops the motors when the toy isn’t in contact with your body. So what makes the Womanizer Next Duo different?
What’s actually new here is Climax Control, the three-level depth setting that arrived on the standalone Womanizer Next. Alongside the strength of the air pulses, you can now set how deep they go. Everything else has been in the range for a while. The Duo 2 already had 14 intensity levels per motor, up from 12 on the original Duo. Afterglow was on the Duo 2 as well. It drops the stimulation to its lowest setting when you briefly press the power button, so you can enjoy post-orgasm sensitivity without being overstimulated. The clitoral suction buttons sit on the front of the toy and the vibration buttons on the back, and Womanizer says each function works independently.
Womanizer Next Duo review: In use
Though I love using toys with my partners, I rarely reach for suction toys for this purpose. This is because the sheer precision required for another person to effectively use these toys on me, or vice versa, is almost impossible to achieve. When such specific positioning is needed, and even slight misalignment can shift the sensation from pleasurable to uncomfortable or painful, it’s more stressful than it’s worth. That’s why I personally consider clitoral suction toys a solo sex product.
I think a dual-stimulation suction-based product like the Womanizer Next Duo lends itself even less to partnered use, if that were possible. My lovers are stellar listeners and communicators, and I still don’t think we could achieve the precise positioning and constant micro-shifts needed to make this toy pleasurable in someone else’s hands. And that’s fine. Not every toy has to be for every use case. But it’s worth being aware of if you’re looking for a toy to share with a partner.
As I’ve come to expect from Womanizer products, the Pleasure Air clitoral stimulator is excellent. The stimulation is consistent and smooth, offering plenty of intensity but without the poking or juddering sensation I’ve experienced from lower-quality toys in this category. Being able to adjust the depth as well as the strength is what makes it stand out.
While I don’t believe clitoral suction toys mimic cunnilingus in any meaningful way, the comparison helps explain why. When a partner goes down on you, do you want them to start off by sucking your clit as hard as possible? Probably not, right? This feature allows you to start off with softer and lighter suction, then up the intensity if and when you’re ready.
The internal vibrator portion of this toy is also well-designed. The deep curve of the shaft enables targeted G-spot stimulation, the slimline size makes it comfortable to use and the flexibility adds ease of movement and some maneuverability when it’s inserted. Most importantly, it has a strong and rumbly motor. There are 10 patterns to choose from and 14 different intensity levels.
Though there are a lot of positives to the Womanizer Next Duo, it also has some pretty significant downsides. First, though it’s quiet on the lower levels, at the higher intensities the clitoral stimulator gets annoyingly loud.
I love that the two motors are completely independent from one another with separate controls, but this toy has so many buttons (seven, all doing different things!) that just figuring out how to use it is quite the learning curve. I kept forgetting which button did what, and either adjusting the wrong motor or accidentally switching a feature on or off.
Though two nozzles of different sizes are included, the openings are pretty small on both. This means that this toy is unlikely to be a good fit for anyone with a larger clitoris.
I found the difficulty in positioning this toy to be its biggest downside by far. It is moderately heavy and very bulky, with a large base that hurts my hand after a few minutes of holding it. Though the shaft is flexible, the clitoral stimulator is fixed in position. This means that, unless your vulva’s shape and size are one specific way, positioning this toy so it stimulates both your G-spot and clitoris (and then keeping it in position) is likely to be awkward. It certainly was for me. In addition, since the nozzle really needs to cover the entire external clit and get a good seal to work as intended, thrusting with this toy isn’t really possible.
So, can I climax with the Womanizer Next Duo? Yes.
Is it worth the effort it takes to get there? Meh.
Womanizer Next Duo: Verdict
Womanizer brought air-based clitoral stimulation to market in 2014, and virtually every major sex toy brand has since put its own spin on the idea. Even with that much competition, Womanizer’s version is still the one to beat.
There’s definitely a lot to like about the Womanizer Next Duo. However, it also has some significant problems, particularly around positioning. Its bulk makes it awkward to use and, while I appreciate the inclusion of dual controls and the various special features, the sheer number of buttons and the complexity of the controls make this toy a headache to use.
Lelo went the other way with the Enigma Double Sonic, which also stimulates the clitoris without contact while an insertable arm works inside, and which cost $349 when STG reviewed it. It has just three buttons on the toy. Independent control of its two motors lives in Lelo’s app instead. The Next Duo keeps that control on the toy itself, and its button count is the price of that.
The Womanizer Next Duo is wildly expensive, retailing for $239 (£199) at the time of writing. That’s $20 more than the Duo 2 cost at launch. This is a lot of money to drop on a toy that likely won’t work well for a lot of bodies. If you’ve enjoyed the sensation of Pleasure Air toys or other clitoral suction products in the past, and want to combine it with penetrative play, this toy might be ideal for you. However, I do not recommend this one as an introduction to either suction stimulators or dual stimulation toys.
While I did manage to have a reasonably enjoyable time once I got to grips with it, I doubt I’ll be reaching for it regularly.
