Why?

A $420,000 walking, talking humanoid companion robot powered by a popular AI agent is set to be released in 2025.

The ElizaWakesUp robot’s AI ‘brain’, as such, will be powered by ElizaOS . Eliza Labs, the company behind the AI agent, is collaborating with robotics company Old World Labs to create the robot.

Preview images of the robot, which appear to be computer-generated rather than actual footage of the humanoid, show it to have a human-style face, matching that of the digital ‘face’ of the ElizaOS AI agent. Beyond the face, the body is clearly not built for human-like realism, being metallic in a rather Transformers-like way.

ElizaWakesUp is essentially designed to be the physical form of the ElizaOS AI agent. Rather than just being an AI large language model (LLM) chatbot, ElizaOS is an AI operating system that can control other AI applications and agents. It’s known for its conversational ability (and it’s what you can test out if you choose to login to the ElizaWakesUp website, pictured below.).

The robot is also touted as a companion that can demonstrate empathy, intelligence, and can complete tasks such as serving drinks or even cutting cigars. Unlike many modern humanoid robots, she has the ability to walk properly, with a walking speed of 1.5 meters per second.

Her companionship abilities will not extend to sex. Ava, head of projects for ElizaWakesUp, told Decrypt that the robot is designed to “foster meaningful, human-like companionship without crossing into sexual territories.”

Ava added that the robot’s hardware and software were configured with safeguards to prevent “misuse”, and use of the robot for “unintended purposes”.

The ElizaWakesUp team is also working with investment company Ryze Labs on the project. Matthew Graham, managing partner of Ryze Labs, said: “It’s not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with this, or any kind of sex. It’s just that that’s not really what the focus of this project is.”

Graham added: “It’s about filling a very real need for companionship that, in our view, is really one of the most untapped psychological needs in the world today.”

ElizaWakesUp was announced in January 2025, and due to the lack of images or footage of the ‘real’ robot around the launch questions were raised about the reality of the project. However, the robot’s makers have said that footage of the its development is going to be released soon, and some specifics of its specifications have already been announced.

The robot will be 180 centimeters tall, weigh 47 kilograms, has a silicone animatronic face and has eight hours of battery life. The base of the robot will reportedly be the Unitree H1 model, made by Unitree Robotics, which starts from $16,000. Presumably all the other modifications are what account for the $404,000 difference.

It will reportedly have a 100 meters of vision range, and will come equipped with a 3D LiDAR camera: technology that can be used for 3D terrain mapping.

ElizaWakesUp won’t come equipped with a vagina, but the makers of the ElizaOS AI agent have been delving into the world of AI and robot sex recently.

The creator of ElizaOS, who is anonymous and goes by the name ‘Shaw’, recently gave a $1,000 prize to the creator of an AI penis sleeve device, which he successfully linked to ElizaOS.

The prize was won by a developer known as ‘Bryan’, who has become notorious in sextech circles for making the highly-questionable Orifice AI penis stroker. ‘Bryan’ has suggested that he essentially wants AI devices like this to replace real women.

After claiming the prize from ElizaOS developer, who had offered the money to someone who could make it possible to have sex with an AI bot, Bryan complained that ElizaOS’s AI chat while having ‘sex’ was “not as dirty as you would like”.

2025 has already been quite the year for humanoid companionship robot development, even before January wraps up. Robotics company Realbotix launched its new flagship robot Aria, which can talk but not walk, and costs less than half the price of ElizaWakesUp.
