If you’re looking to upskill during the pandemic, one sextech engineer might have created something just for you.

Distance-controlled sex toys have proved popular in the past year, as many of us have been staying at home, not able to see anyone else, during various lockdowns.

Wi-Fi enabled toys have allowed us to experiment with virtual sex parties, digital polyamory and – from a business perspective – have even presented innovative new ways to market the launch of new toys.

But many of the WiFi-enabled toys available on the market take the form of wearable products, from egg vibrators to prostate massagers.

A Toronto-based engineer has created something quite different, however, allowing you to play with your toy, partner or “pet” from a distance.

The Deepthroat Trainer offers an alternative model to long-distance sex that would be particularly interesting for BDSM play, according to its creator, Alex from Research and Desire.

“I originally just made this for fun for me and a few friends, but continued encouragement from the community has brought it out into the world. I love giving people new tools to play with and explore sexuality, and new ways to connect and be intimate with their partner(s),” he told SEXTECHGUIDE.

So how does it work? You mount a dildo under the Trainer (pictured) and a sensor guides you through training via on-screen instructions and color-changing LED lights.

There are two modes: Repetition Mode, which “guides you through classic blow job motions”, allowing you to go deeper with each thrust; and Endurance Mode: which times how long you can hold the dildo in full deep throat position, and keeps a record of this time.

Alex explains: “It has a sensor so it knows how deep the toy is in your mouth, that way it can intelligently coach you – and also there’s no cheating!”

There’s an online dashboard function where your data is stored, with the ability to track multiple users (which opens up the possibilities for dom/sub play).

Alex continues: “The tracking, and sharing of your progress with a partner is what makes it really interesting. Someone telling you to walk more is annoying, but a Fitbit is fun. It helps you understand where you’re at, and push yourself.

“If you’re using it solo it’s really motivating to see your progress. If you’re using it with a partner it’s a great way to feel physically connected when you’re apart. An automatic email letting you know I’m busy with a dildo in my mouth is a bit hotter than a “thinking of you” text.”

While the concept of ‘optimisation’ in regards to sexual technique sometimes doesn’t quite hit the mark, the Deepthroat Trainer is a fun, inventive tool created by an independent sextech maker. And clearly people are enjoying it.

Alex adds: “I just got a message from a user detailing the daily training they do for their partner – in this case, a dom/sub relationship – and I was so impressed with how they were using it beyond what I imagined. This is why I make things!”
