OhMiBod Bluemotion Nex 3 review: a vibrating ring for couples that’s a bit clit and miss

As the latest addition to OhMiBod’s Bluemotion series — the Nex 1 being an app-controlled panty vibe and the Nex 2 traditional G-spot vibrator — the Nex 3 is a vibrating couple’s ring that offers “extended touch design” for “consistent clitoral stimulation” during penis in vagina sex.
OhMiBod is well-versed in its remote-controlled techy toys, and the Nex3 is no different. Costing $109, it is wireless and Bluetooth-enabled for local and long-distance control, and considerably cheaper than some of its less-futuristically featured rivals.
Approximately 20 percent of cis women consistently orgasm from penis-in-vagina sex, with the remaining majority needing additional clitoral stimulation to provide that climactic hit. While the WeVibe Sync offers a similar solution with hands-free clit and G-spot stimulation, the Nex 3 offers the additional ring benefit for keeping the blood in the penis—which is good news for the third of cis men who experience erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives.

OhMiBod Nex3: Design
Along with the product itself, you receive a USB charging cable, satin privacy pouch, and a multilingual instruction manual.
The toy is blue, made from soft silicone, and is waterproof for all your wet fantasies—meaning you could use it in the shower, bath, hot tub, etc. Though, penetration underwater isn’t recommended as the water can get inside the vagina and mess with the pH levels. Waterproof toys are mostly great for the fact that they are easy to clean. Just rinse with warm water and soap, or invest in some proper toy cleaner for extra safe sex toy hygiene.
Nex 3 is 3.7-inches in length, 1.25-inches in diameter, and the ring stretches to fit a range of penis sizes. The clitoral stimulator is broad and ridged with “velvet waves.” For simplicity, there is just a single button that you use to turn on and scroll through the four preset vibes.
Like all OhMiBod devices, it can connect to your smart device (even your Apple watch) via the OhMiBod app which is downloadable on the App Store or Google Play. There is a video feature that allows you to connect to your partner long distance, and you can sync it up to your music via your Apple Playlist, Spotify, or in-app playlist.
To enjoy beyond the four present vibes, the app also allows you to choose from different vibration control methods: a wider variety of set rhythms, tapping, touch control, club vibe (which means sound-activated vibrations), and vibrating in time to your heartbeat via the Health App if you own an Apple Watch.
OhMiBod Nex3 Review: In Use
As the description suggests the toy is for couples. So for the first try, I decided to take it away with us on our romantic holiday. The silky travel pouch was a nice touch, though a pretty common companion in sex toys these days, it still felt like a special experience.
Placing it on the penis was pretty easy due to the ring’s amount of stretch, though I’d recommend doing so while it is semi-erect, and a pea-sized amount of lube for ease. This time we were so caught up in the moment, we didn’t feel the need to use the remote-controlled app, nor figure out the different functionalities, finding the basic four preset rhythms good enough for the job.
Having only looked at the manual in detail after the experience, I realized we only explored one out of the three recommended positions, which was doggy. This and spooning sex proved not to be the best angles with this toy as the clitoral stimulator simply did not stay in place, meaning that my partner and I had to take it in turns to hold it in place for me to receive any “consistent” stimulation. Afterwards, he noted thathe “may as well just use my hands or a standard vibrator,” which is hard to disagree with in these positions.
However, when the toy was in place, the ridged waves were a nice sensation. Though I was unable to let go and enjoy them for long enough without concentrating on holding the toy while being penetrated. For my partner, the vibrations didn’t do anything, and as for the ring benefits, he isn’t a fan of feeling restricted, though this is largely down to personal taste, not an issue with the Nex 3 specifically.
The second time we tried the toy—back at home—we made sure to explore the two other positions recommended in the manual: missionary and cowgirl, as well as the app.
At first, I couldn’t find the Nex 3 selection on the app, and it took me a moment to realize I simply had to update it. Once I did, the toy was quick to pair via Bluetooth, and we synced it to one of my sexy Spotify playlists.
Starting in missionary, the toy definitely stayed in place better than doggy. Though the largest and most vibrating part of the clitoral stimulator seemed to miss the mark… being my clitoris.
Of course, this all depends on the distance between your vagina and the clit, as everybody’s genitals are arranged uniquely. While I managed to experience some vibration, it was too high up on the mons pubis.
Switching it up into cowgirl, me on top—though not my favorite position usually, I found this was the best spot for grinding my clit on the ridged toy. I felt way more in control of the positioning of the toy and was able to move in time to the music and vibrations too!
The musical touch was fun at the very most—a novelty that we probably wouldn’t try again for a while, but nice to mix things up.
OhMiBod Nex 3 Review: The Verdict
Overall, the OhMiBod Nex 3 is a bit of a mixed bag. There haven’t been any climaxes, but I would never say never, as with time, patience, practice, and the confidence to be able to let go of control, orgasms could be possible during penetrative sex with this toy. However, will I be begging my partner to put it on again anytime soon? Probably not. Not to mention that the long-distance remote seems largely irrelevant for a couples’ toy.
For anyone looking for hands-free stimulation during penis in vagina sex, this might just be the toy for you—that is, if you’re up for riding on top. Couples toys are a great way to introduce sex toys into the bedroom and encourage you to open up the conversation around what you like and don’t like. At the very least it got us out of our sexual routine.
However, as the main vibrations missed the mark for half the sex positions, the Nex 3 gets a middling overall score. Comme ci, comme ça as the French would say.
