The surprising (and a little bit creepy) tech making VR porn more immersive

We know from our own reader figures that VR porn is a hot topic right now, but while most of our focus goes from the viewer's side of the camera, we also like to take a look now and again at the technology and performers making the growth of VR porn possible.

We know from our own reader figures that VR porn is a hot topic right now, but while most of our focus goes from the viewer’s side of the camera, we also like to take a look now and again at the technology and role of the performers making the growth of VR porn possible.

In our previous interviews with Anna Bell Peaks, Harriet Sugarcookie and behind the scenes with Tina Kay, it’s become clear that performing in VR requires an extra skill set because there always a much wider field-of-view to take into account. What makes things particularly difficult, however, is that the (usuallly) performer off-camera (so, the guy in straight VR porn) has to basically keep completely still so that the overall effect is one of the on-camera performer interacting with the viewer.

This is something we’ve heard before – and while it’s not currently getting any better for the ‘off-camera’ performer – there’s some interesting behind the scenes camera tech being employed to allow the ‘on-camera’ performer get even closer to the viewer in a more realistic seeming way.

VRBangers‘ admittedly creepy VR porn head rig might look a bit like Dr. Strangelove, but its purpose is a more functional one, as it contains dual 4K-capable cameras that capture scenes in either 180-degrees or 360-degrees, binaural microphones for immersive audio that changes as you move your head and shift focus (particularly in 360-degree scenes).

“Anyone can slap a dozen GoPro cameras to a stick and pretend they are a content producer, but when you start to see the distant emotionless content that low tech choice creates, it’s easy to see that it’s insufficient and your audience will definitely let you know that quickly,” Daniel Abramovich, founder of VRBangers.

The company says that (despite what you might think as a casual observer) the VR head rig makes the transition much easier for adult performers that haven’t yet made the move into filming in VR as it makes the whole process more approachable and ‘human’ than bumping up against some cameras.

As far as viewers go, anything that gets them closer to the action is likely to go down well.
