A free 24-hour sextech hackathon is taking place in London this weekend ahead of ‘The Second International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots‘ event next week.
The aim of the event is to encourage developers, hardware makers and anyone else that’s interested to explore the possibilities and challenges presented by combining sex with technology. The event’s not restricted to people with a technical background, however. Psychologists, artists, sex writers, musicians and nanomaterial scientists will all be attending too, according to the event’s organiser Dr Kate Devlin, a senior lecturer at Goldsmiths University in London.
“The hackathon will be fuelled by sex-positive, non-objectifying messaging which is accessible for those of all genders and sexualities,” the event page notes.
You’re not obliged to stay overnight, but can – you just need to bring a sleeping bag. Oh, and you’ll need to be over 18 to attend too, obviously.
Devlin told STG that if successful, she’d hope to make it an annual event, which could be an important step towards dispelling some of the stigma surrounding sextech and startups that focus on the topic.
If you were thinking of attending the hackathon ahead of the Love and Sex with Robots event, it’s worth pointing out that event isn’t free.
