Why?

Sex tips have come a long way from the pages of Cosmo. Now, users who want to try something new can turn to ‘Lover’, an iOS app that offers sex coaching as a service for ten bucks a month.

Lover has received over $5 million in seed money, with the bulk coming from Sean Rad, better known as the founder of dating phenomenon Tinder. The app’s designed as an aid to couples who are either struggling with their bedroom antics, or feel it’s time for something new.

So why would you want to pay $9.99 per month (or $59.99 for an annual subscription) instead of just using Google?

The app’s main USP is its creator, Dr Britney Blaier, who boasts credentials in both sexual medicine and clinical psychology. Her no-nonsense approach is ideal for those situations where you perhaps don’t feel comfortable talking to a third-party, or if you’re mid-coitus and need some pointers – Googling tips isn’t sexy at all.

“It is strange that there are such taboos around sex when it is something we all do…whether we enjoy ourselves or not. We think it is time to start the conversation around this important aspect of our health,” Dr Blaier explained to TechCrunch.

Her partners in bringing the concept to market are her co-founder, Nick Pendle, who was behind hipster mattress brand Eve, and CEO Jas Bagniewski, who joins Lover from e-commerce giant Zalando.

There’s an infinite amount of choice when it comes to what to get up to between the sheets (or indeed, anywhere else), so in order to tailor the advice to you, you’re asked to fill out a sexual personality survey, so the app knows what you’re into, what your limits are, and what you’ve always wanted to try, but don’t know how.

To begin with, the app is available on iOS only, but an Android version is in the works and there are plans for more features, such as ideas for sex games you can play with your partner in bed.

If all that has whetted your appetite, you can try a limited version of the app, free of charge for seven days. After you create an account, it’ll offer advice on everything from getting an erection, to better orgasms, and lots of stuff in between.
