Rumours are swirling that Dating app Tinder is launching a premium or ‘Platinum’ tier in the coming months.
El Goat, A Redditor posting in the r/SwipeHelper group has posted details of the plan, which they discovered during the sign-up process.
The user had decided to sign up using Incognito Mode in Google Chrome. After accidentally refusing to give Tinder access to his location, the Platinum offer appeared beside Free, Plus and Gold tariffs.
This suggests that Platinum will roll out in regional test markets at a later date, and the system was confused by not having a location available from the device.
Based on the information gleaned from the clandestine page, Platinum has a number of extra features over and above those in the Gold tariff.
Presently a Gold option, it looks like Platinum members will be the only ones able to see who has swiped left on you before you make a judgement call on them. It’s not clear if this will be moved to be a Platinum exclusive feature, though it seems unlikely given how much it would annoy existing subscribers.
Other Platinum features are said to include Messaging before a match has been made, the ability to add a message to a Super-Like, and priority likes – so if you like someone, you’ll be moved to the top of their matches, ahead of non-Platinum members.
Since the discovery, Mashable reports that pricing for Platinum has now appeared in the Subscriptions utility on iPhone.
Assuming that’s correct, Tinder Platinum will cost $99.99 for a year’s service upfront, or $39.99 per month – though there are 50 percent discounts listed on the monthly price.
Tinder has previously confirmed that it is exploring new revenue streams during 2020/21. Another code teardown has also revealed the company is working on a concierge service, where experts will help you to create a winning profile.
