Steam is Valve’s massive digital distribution platform for PC games, and over the past few years it’s become one of the biggest marketplaces for adult gaming content. The platform hosts thousands of NSFW games ranging from visual novels to full-blown RPGs with explicit content, including titles that sync with connected sex toys from brands like Kiiroo and Lovense. We covered how Wild Life uses ‘scene-aware haptics’ to sync with sex toys on Steam. The platform’s relationship with adult content has been rocky though. After initially being hesitant about NSFW games, Valve opened the floodgates in 2018, but has since walked back some of that openness. As we reported, Steam quietly banned certain adult content that violates credit card company rules, joining other platforms facing pressure from payment processors. Despite these restrictions, it remains the largest distribution channel for adult games on PC, with developers often releasing both ‘safe’ Steam versions and uncensored patches hosted elsewhere.
