Stripchat’s made it a whole lot easier for viewers to interact with live cam performers in VR

The world of virtual reality (VR) porn has taken a significant step into the world of mainstream VR, with camming site Stripchat adding new features that make interaction with cam performers more straightforward in VR.

Previously, to use the VR live cam options, a third-party app needed to be downloaded. Now, however, the company says this is no longer needed, as it allows users to interact with performers in VR natively. Stripchat also announced that it is now natively compatible with the Oculus Quest VR headset — the world’s most popular home-use standalone VR headset.

While many in the online porn industry consider VR to be its key future growth area, adult VR content is still far behind more traditional tube site style 2D porn videos and live camming streams, in terms of popularity.

Much of this reluctance is down to it often being a bit of a faff to access VR porn through ‘official’ channels and hardware. Third party applications are required to use VR porn sites through VR headsets, with much of the mainstream VR industry squeamish about promoting use of VR porn. That’s the reason that VRBangers and SexLikeReal both offer standalone apps, improving the experience for standalone headset users.

Stripchat’s live VR porn streams [NSFW] can now be accessed with an Oculus Quest headset via its web browser. Max Bennett, Vice President of Stripchat, claimed that the move was “opening the door to users all over the world who have been waiting to experience virtual interaction at the highest quality.”

The site now allows users using VR headsets to speak to models using a microphone, with functions such as sex toy reactions and interactive chat modes also being available for the site’s VR porn streams.

While VR porn is yet to become the dominant force in the online video porn industry, its popularity is gradually rising. This month bosses at VRBangers [NSFW], another popular VR porn platform, said the company is pushing for VR porn to have a bigger online presence in the metaverse.

Meanwhile, the development of VR accessories such as haptic gloves and vests, which allow wearers to experience body sensations linked to their VR experiences, have got VR porn watchers wondering about their potential in the sextech field. Some particularly forward-minded sex experts are exploring the act of orgasmic squirting in VR.

Bennet said that Stripchat’s developments meant that VR porn was no longer just for user who “have the money to buy expensive VR headsets and the time to seek out and download third party VR applications.”
