Playboy has released several new sextech devices with a focus on ‘shallowing’: partially inserting the device into the vagina to stimulate the front wall of the genitals.
The three new devices in the Playboy Pleasures range have launched in collaboration with the online retailer Lovers. The $112 Tap That is a vibrator and G-Spot vibrator, as is the $90 Pleasure Arch, which has a more bulbous main appendage. The $80 Ring My Bell vibrator is the device in the new range seemingly best suited for shallowing.
The ring-shaped Ring My Bell (pictured below) has a small-tipped appendage with a one-inch insertable length, designed for shallowing. The device has ten vibration speed and function settings, controlled by buttons on the product.
Lovers says that “shallowing, performed by ‘dipping’ the tip of Ring My Bell into the vagina stimulates this area rich in nerve endings and is a great way to tease the body. The one-inch tip offers shallow penetration for those looking for a ‘less is more’ sensation.”
Sexologist Marla Renee Stewart, working with the retail site, said: “When shallowing, you’re paying attention to the body and noticing the nerve endings in the vaginal entrance. Since the introitus is one of the most sensitive parts of the body, you’re going to take note of depth and sensitivity to girth.”
Playboy Pleasure, Playboy’s first sex toy line, launched in January 2023. Launch products included a version of the classic ‘bullet’-style vibrator, a rose vibrator, and a palm vibrator.
The devices weren’t particularly innovative, but Ashley Kechter, PLBY Group President of global consumer products, saying that having the Playboy logo on sextech products “enables users to feel an emotional connection to our playful, pleasure-filled brand.”
Following Playboy’s iconic print magazine closing in 2020, the brand has re-focused on other products, plus its OnlyFans-style creator platform, Centerfold. In early 2023 it announced the launch of a new digital magazine, designed to promote this platform.
