Hot Octopuss has been making waves in the world of sex toys for a number of years, ever since hitting the market (and the industry headlines) with its ‘world-first’ Pulse, a unique penis toy that utilizes oscillating medical technology. Since then, the company has continued to impress toy aficionados with its innovative designs and quality products such as the Plex with Flex and Atom Plus Lex.
The Kurve G-spot vibrator offers intriguing potential, innovative technology and an aesthetically pleasing design. But how does this high-tech dual motor vibe stack up?
Hot Octopuss Kurve: Design & features
At first glance, the Kurve by Hot Octopuss looks like any other G-spot vibrator. However, once we look a little closer, there is so much more going on than that.
This toy utilizes the same patented “treble and bass technology” that Hot Octopuss first used in its Jett penis toy. The Kurve has two motors, one located in the head which vibrates at a higher frequency and one located further down the shaft which vibrates at a lower frequency. But what does that actually mean?
If you’ve read sex toy reviews before, you may have seen reviewers (like me) referring to toys as either “buzzy” or “rumbly”. In a nutshell, those higher frequency vibrations are buzzy and tend to feel more surface-level on the body, while lower frequency vibrations are rumbly and tend to produce a deeper and more penetrating sensation.
Anecdotally at least, the majority of people with a clitoris tend to prefer rumbly vibrations. Many people say that buzzy vibrators can produce an uncomfortable tingling, itching, or numb sensation if used for too long. However, this is by no means universal and both types have their devotees.
The Kurve’s unique selling point, though, is that you can have both buzzy and rumbly vibrations at the same time and in varying combinations. In the next section, we’ll delve into how that feels and who might enjoy it.
The Kurve is waterproof and rechargeable, with a full charge taking around two hours and giving you about the same in use time. It measures 7.6″ in total length, 5″ in insertable length, and 1.6″ in diameter at the widest point, and weighs a fairly light 190g. It also comes with a handy storage bag.
The insertable portion of the Kurve is made from 100% body-safe and silky smooth silicone, while the handle and buttons are made from ABS plastic. This is a small gripe, but the seam between the handle and shaft is quite uneven. This means it looks a little unsightly as well as being a potential bacteria trap. Take extra care when cleaning around this area.
Apart from this, the Kurve is quite a pretty toy. It is a lovely shade of aubergine purple which fades to black at the base of the handle, with silver buttons and the Hot Octopuss crown insignia stamped into the handle.
The Kurve is USB rechargeable via the included cable. It takes around two hours to charge, and offers two hours runtime on a full battery. It is controlled via six buttons on the handle and does not have either an app or a remote control.
Hot Octopuss Kurve: How it feels
Hot Octopuss toys are known for featuring high quality and rumbly motors, and the bass motor in the Kurve is no exception. Personally, I find the vibrations of this motor satisfying and sufficient on their own. However, when combined with the treble motor–which is buzzy by design but still relatively powerful–the vibrations offer a whole new level of sensation.
The combination is really what makes it. The multi-layered stimulation is incredibly intense and feels amazing. Personally, I prefer to use the vibrating functions for clitoral stimulation (just my body’s preference!) but I am reliably informed by friends and fellow sex toy reviewers that it’s equally amazing for those who enjoy G-spot vibrations.
The other advantage of this technology is that, if you are new to sex toys and do not know yet how buzzy or rumbly you like your vibrations, you can experiment and try different combinations until you find the one that works perfectly for you.
The Kurve also has another awesome and unique feature: a squishy tip. The shaft itself is rigid, which is ideal for intense G-spot targeting. But underneath the silicone head, a gel material makes the tip a little softer, more comfortable, and more luxurious to use.
Finally, let’s talk about that shape. Curved toys tend to be ideal for G-spot stimulation as, on most bodies, this pleasurable internal spot is located on the anterior (front) vaginal wall. The pronounced and contoured tip of the Kurve is near perfectly designed, in my view. I can get a huge amount of pleasure from this toy before I even turn the vibrations on!
Hot Octopuss Kurve: User experience
For many high-tech sex toys, user-friendliness is where they fall down. In this regard, the Kurve does have some issues.
First, it takes a little getting used to the controls. The toy features two identical sets of three buttons–six buttons in all. The + and – buttons turn the vibrations up and down, and are conveniently labeled “T” and “B” so you know whether you’re operating the treble or bass motor. One of the small round buttons turns both motors off simultaneously, and the other scrolls through the patterns.
The buttons are easy to press, responsive, and not too small. However, because there are so many and they are so similar, it is easy to accidentally hit the wrong one. Do this at the wrong moment and you might end up accidentally ruining your own orgasm!
Each motor offers five patterns and five speeds. Though each motor can be switched on and off and turned up or down independently, it is not possible to run them both on different pattern settings at the same time. There are also no dual-way controls on the patterns so, if you want to go back one, you have to scroll all the way through to get there.
A lot of the vibrations do transmit through the handle. I can tune this out fairly easily but, if you find it uncomfortable or painful to hold a vibrating item in your hands, this might be a problem for you.
Overall, I like the Kurve a lot as a toy but it does fall down on user-friendliness. It is also moderately loud, particularly when both motors are on, which can be a problem for some users.
Hot Octopuss Kurve review: Verdict
The Hot Octopuss Kurve retails for $99.95, and like all Hot Octopuss products, it comes with a 1-year warranty so you are covered should anything go wrong within that time.
Considering its quality and the innovative design, it’s reasonably priced for what it offers. However, it’s really only worth it if you are going to make full use of the treble and bass technology. If you’re looking for just one or the other, or for a simple and basic curved G-spot vibrator, there are cheaper options on the market that will serve you just as well.
I would like to see Hot Octopuss address some of the user-friendliness and accessibility issues in the next iteration of this toy, while keeping the things that make it great, like those fabulous dual motors and that perfect curve.
