Why?

Another day, another niche dating app – and indeed, in this case, Struck is another dating app aimed at the Co-Star community.

For the uninitiated, this is the growing sector of the population who live their lives according to personalized, hyperlocal astrology charts, which, we’re told, are more accurate than the random gibberish you see next to the sudoku in the paper.

Last month, we introduced you to NUiT, an app with a similar focus, and one which has already gained some favorable ratings in the Apple Store.

Struck, meanwhile has been floundering as it tried to gain approval for its own version, with Apple rejecting the app several times after users marked it as “spam” – in many cases, purely because of a lack of belief in astrology.

That reason makes it all the more ironic, as the company promises a policy of “Sceptics Welcome”, and even more so as the founders of Struck are former Apple engineers.

All that aside, and to make up for lost time, Struck is offering its service for free right now, though paid subscriptions will be switched on in the future.

This isn’t just another swiping app, however. Carefully collated matches are based on both parties’ astrology charts, which are compiled when you join. Every day you’ll receive no more than four matches, and of those, you can only reply to one each day.

The idea is to go beyond swiping on the ‘hot’ choices, but to put some thought into how the two of you are suited and whether you’d be good together.

Fortunately, after some high profile advocates pushed Apple, the app is now well and truly approved. It’s unclear exactly why it was suddenly accepted, or the official reason for rejection in the first place.

Struck is currently available on iOS to users in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. More locations will be added later according to demand, so if you’d like to see Struck cover your corner of the world, let them know.
