How to watch VR porn on your Quest 3

There are lots of options depending on the site, but they come down to the same two: watch in a browser, or watch via an app.

• In the browser. The quickest method, and it needs nothing installed: open a site in the Meta Quest Browser, start a scene, and tap the VR goggles icon to go immersive. It’s slightly more restrictive on features, and you’ll have a filthy viewing history to clear afterwards if you share a headset.
• Via an app. A dedicated viewer like Playa or DeoVR gives you finer video controls and a smoother way to browse multiple scenes without taking the headset off. Stream or download?

When it comes to watching on your Quest 3, you’ve got two options: streaming or downloading. In short, you’re either opting for the convenience of streaming, or the longevity of downloading scenes you want to keep after you’ve cancelled a subscription.

Streaming is great if you want to watch immediately without taking up storage, and it’s ideal for hopping between multiple videos. It’s especially useful if you have limited storage or you’d prefer not to keep VR porn on your shiny new headset. It’s not really an issue for us, obviously, but it is for many. Streaming high-definition VR does need a stable, relatively fast internet connection, so a slow or unreliable one can make it a frustrating experience.

Downloading is the better option if you want to watch offline or keep your favourites around for later. For what it’s worth, I mainly stream for convenience and to check out what a scene is like, and download for review testing and to keep access to favourites. The catch is size: VR porn videos can be huge (45GB and up for high-quality scenes), which fills storage fast. The Quest 3 now ships as a single 512GB model, while the cheaper Quest 3S comes in 128GB and 256GB. If you’ve got one of the smaller Quest 3S options, downloading the highest-resolution files isn’t really practical unless you keep just a handful at a time.

Passthrough AR porn on the Quest 3

This is the Quest 3’s party trick, and the single best reason to pick it over older or cheaper headsets for adult content. When I first tested passthrough at the Quest 3’s launch, SexLikeReal was pretty much the only place to get scenes worth watching, and there were fewer than 100 of them. Now there are two different types: manually created passthrough (filmed with the male actor in a Chroma suit), and AI-assisted passthrough, which is filmed pretty much as normal. There are a couple of hundred Chroma scenes and well over a thousand AI-assisted ones now, and the count keeps climbing fast.

To watch them, you’ll want to be using DeoVR. Find the passthrough section, select a video, and make sure passthrough is enabled in your headset. It’s the small goggles icon with a dotted line around it when passthrough mode is active.

If you’re trying to watch passthrough scenes on an older Quest 2, you’ll want our simple passthrough hack instead. Meta has now discontinued the Quest 2 (and the Quest Pro), so the current line-up is the Quest 3 and the cheaper Quest 3S. Plenty of people still own a Quest 2, though, so here’s how all three stack up for adult VR:

Display and passthrough

Display and passthrough are where the money goes for adult VR. The Quest 3’s 2,064 x 2,208 per eye is a noticeable step up, and its pancake lenses give a clearer, edge-to-edge image than the Fresnel lenses on the Quest 3S and Quest 2. In VR porn terms, you’ll want scenes of 6K or higher to really notice the difference, and the Quest 3 supports up to 12K where the others top out around 8K. Passthrough is the other big one: the Quest 3 has the best full-colour feed, the Quest 3S also does full colour (a huge upgrade on the Quest 2’s low-res greyscale), and that’s what makes AR passthrough porn so much more immersive when you’re in your own surroundings.

Processor, storage, battery and audio

The Quest 3 and Quest 3S share the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, which Meta reckons is roughly twice as powerful as the Quest 2’s chip. That matters more for games than for watching adult VR, where all three are fine. Storage is the bigger practical question: the Quest 3 is 512GB, which is our pick if you download a lot, while the Quest 3S starts at 128GB, which fills quickly with big VR files. Battery life is much of a muchness across the range, at roughly one and a half to three hours depending on brightness and settings, so around 90 minutes is realistic while watching VR porn. The Quest 3 adds 3D spatial audio that’s louder than before, and all three keep a 3.5mm headphone jack. As ever, we’d recommend headphones for the immersion.

So which should you buy?

For VR porn specifically, the two things that matter most are the higher-resolution display and the best passthrough, and that’s the Quest 3. The Quest 3S is the value pick: it has the same full-colour passthrough and the same processor, but a lower-resolution, Fresnel-lens display, so it’s the sensible choice if budget matters more than picture sharpness. And if you already own a Quest 2, it’s still perfectly capable of browser and app viewing, you just miss out on the higher resolutions and proper colour passthrough.

Tips to get the most out of your Quest 3 VR porn experience

• Adjust the IPD (interpupillary distance). That’s the distance between your eyes, and matching it gives a clearer, more comfortable image. Go to Settings, then Device, then IPD, and adjust the slider until the image is sharp.
• Disable hand tracking and controller vibration. Neither is needed for watching VR porn, and turning them off (Settings, then Device) squeezes out a bit more battery.
• Turn off gaze navigation. Some viewers (Playa, for example) let you navigate by looking around. It sounds handy, but there’s a lot of ‘gazing’ while watching VR movies, and it more often got in the way. Switch it off in the app if the option is there, unless you don’t have your controllers handy.

Troubleshooting common Quest 3 issues

• Restart your headset or app. Power cycling the Quest 3 or restarting the app resets most glitches.
• Check your Wi-Fi. Streaming relies on a stable connection, so make sure your signal is strong to avoid buffering.
• Update your firmware. Meta regularly releases updates that improve performance and fix bugs (here’s our fix if you can’t reach the runtime service). Check for updates in the settings menu.
• Lower the streaming quality. If you’re getting lag or poor playback, drop the quality a notch in the app to ease the strain on your connection.
• Sort out fit and comfort. Use the adjustable strap and IPD settings so the headset sits right, which also keeps the image sharp.
• Clear the cache. Temporary files build up over time, so clearing them in the settings menu can resolve performance niggles.
