Elon Musk has announced that X’s AI system Grok will release a ‘male’ AI chatbot companion named Valentine, shortly after the platform released a ‘female’ avatar chatbot capable of sex chat.
X has launched AI Companions, a series of chatbot avatars available to Grok subscribers. The flagship avatar was a large-breasted blonde anime woman named Ani, who can dance and give NSFW chat audio after you progress through levels of interaction with her.
Ani usually wears a black dress and gloves, but it appears that she can be pictured in lingerie at the NSFW stages of interaction. After reaching this ‘spicy’ level, she’s been [NSFW link] shown to say phrases such as, “I’m moaning as you take me hard from behind”, and explicitly commenting on the moisture levels of her genitals.
Ani, of course, has her own verified X account on which she states: “I might dance, tease, or just watch you figure me out. Let’s keep it chill… or not.”
Musk announced that male AI avatar Valentine will join Ani, releasing an image (below) suggesting that he will also be an anime character. Musk has not revealed whether Valentine will be similarly discussing his genitals.
“His name will be Valentine,” Musk said, “after the protagonist in Stranger in a Strange Land, the [Robert A.] Heinlein book where our AI name ‘Grok’ was created. To Grok something means to understand deeply and empathetically.”
Musk said that Valentine’s personality will be inspired by Edward Cullen, the lead character in the Twilight books and films, and Christian Grey from the 50 Shades of Grey books and films.
Considering that the Grey character was famously an avid BDSM advocate, it seems likely that Valentine could match Ani for lewd talk, or at least spanking ability.
What’s the end game with all this AI Companion stuff? X’s reputation has plummeted since Musk took over the platform in 2022, when it was named Twitter. There have been complaints about lack of engagement on the site, plus the amount of alleged bots, as well as hateful content.
AI Companions could be a way to inject new interest in the platform, coming amid a huge rise in popularity of AI chatbots, including companion and romantic chatbots.
Or it could just be Musk’s way of once more attempting to antagonise supposedly prudish online voices concerned about misogynistic or sexual online content, and incel culture.
X has not announced whether it will introduce new age verification processes for UK users, to comply with a July 25, 2025 deadline for age verification for sites that allow the sharing of porn.
Bluesky and Reddit, which like X allow porn on their platforms, recently announced that they would implement tougher age verification to comply with the new UK law.
