Why?

The ‘A-spot’ is a defined section of the vagina that doesn’t get much focus in the world of sextech – indeed, many people have never even heard of it.

This often-overlooked erogenous zone, the existence of which —just like the G-Spot— is not accepted by all scientists, is the focus of Lelo’s new Enigma Double Sonic vibrator. The device has two insertable sections, one designed to pleasure the clitoris and the other to the A-spot, with both emitting sonic waves that can give pleasure without physical contact.

The Enigma Double Sonic sells for $199, placing it at the more premium end of the remote-controlled vibrator market.

According to the US site Medical News Today, the A-spot is also known as the anterior fornix erogenous (AFE) zone, and is an area deep within the vagina between the cervix and the bladder. Scientific research has associated the A-spot with female orgasm and increased arousal.

However, Medical News Today also reported that while “anyone born with a vagina may have an AFE zone… researchers have not extensively studied this zone in large samples of women. Some researchers argue that there is not sufficient scientific evidence to confirm that it exists, especially not in all women.”

Still, Lelo has gone all-in on the A-spot with the Enigma Double Sonic: the latest model in the Swedish sextech company’s popular range of Enigma vibrators. The company noted that the A-spot can be difficult to reach with fingers: an observation that informed the design of the new device, the longest insertable section length of which is 140 millimeters.

The Enigma Double Sonic has sonic tips at the ends of its two insertable sections, which emit sonic waves to give pleasure to the clit and A-spot. The device can also vibrate in the manner of a more traditional vibrator.

Like Lelo’s other devices, the Enigma Double Sonic can be controlled by buttons on the device or by being linked to your smartphone then controlled via the Lelo app. Using the Lelo app with the device unlocks two new stimulation patterns not available by just pressing buttons on the vibrator.

The device is 170 millimeters long at its longest section, weighs 195 grams, and can be used for up to two hours between charges. It is waterproof, so can be used in the shower or bath. Lelo says that the Enigma Double Sonic causes less than 63 decibels of noise when being operated. 63 decibels is a noise level slightly above that of normal conversation or background music.

Lelo emoji

Meanwhile, Lelo has launched an online petition lobbying for a sex toy emoji (pictured above) to be implemented by Unicode, the world standard guide for text and emojis.

Rather than the ‘official’ launch of a sex toy emoji being beneficial to the sales of more sex toys, Lelo said that the thrust behind its petition came from a point of wellness. “By incorporating a sex toy emoji in Unicode, we can encourage further dialogue, remove stigmas, and normalize conversations about self-pleasure and sexual wellbeing,” the company wrote.

The initial signature goal for the petition was rather modest. It was launched on July 10, 2024, and over two weeks later, it still only has 36 signatures in total.
