Not too long ago, the idea of a “blowjob machine” might have sounded more like a punchline than something you could actually buy. However, blowjob simulators are now not only real, but they’re smart.
They connect to your phone, can be controlled remotely, and can even be programmed to give personalized experiences. As a result, such devices are carving out their own unique space within the wider world of sex tech.
One brand that has always tried to lead the charge here is Autoblow, and with a name like that, it’s the kind of singular focus that leads to high expectation.
Its AI series of high-tech sex toys is the most notable, coming in the form of the Autoblow AI+ and the next-gen Autoblow AI Ultra. Both offer machine-learning-powered oral stimulation in a fully automated, hands-free(ish) experience.
But while they share a lot on paper, they differ quite significantly in feel and features. We’ve spent a few weeks with both units – testing performance, build quality, software, and just how good they really are when it comes to mimicking the real thing.
So, if you’re wondering which one to go for – whether you’re upgrading or buying for the first time – this review will break down how they compare and which deserves your dosh, if any at all.
Autoblow AI+ vs Autoblow AI Ultra
Why use a blowjob simulator?
Unlike manual penis strokers and masturbators, blowjob simulators like the Autoblow AI+ and AI Ultra aim to replicate oral sex by offering stimulation by different means, not just vertical friction, but through automated motion and rhythm.
Sure, the idea is to mimic oral sex, but these devices also aim to take the physical effort out of solo play and give you a more consistent, hands-free experience that you wouldn’t otherwise get on your own.
Whether you’re looking to add something a bit different to your sex life, explore new sex tech toys, or simply want something that mimics real-life oral more convincingly, these devices cater to that.
And while they won’t replace a human partner, they can come impressively close in terms of sensation, especially with features like customisable stroke zones and video sync.
Comparing design
Okay, so I’m just going to come right out and say it: neither the Autoblow AI+ nor the AI Ultra are winning any design awards. Both are function-first machines, and it shows.
They boast a similar white plastic housing that looks, if we’re being honest, cheap. For products sitting in this price range, we were rather shocked – and disappointed – at the lack of premium materials involved.
The aesthetics are disappointing, in my opinion – especially when you compare them to more refined offerings from brands like Kiiroo or Lovense, which look and feel like high-end devices more worthy of their price tags.
That said, there are some differences in each model’s design and ergonomics. The AI+ is more bulky and awkward to hold, with a shape that feels a bit like an old-school camcorder rather than a piece of modern pleasure tech.
It features a sleeve grip adjustment system that requires – get this – a screwdriver to tighten or loosen. That alone tells you a lot about the user experience: functional, but not exactly convenient or premium feeling.
The same goes for the intrusive yellow warning sticker placement on the top, just next to the insertion hole. I mean, it can be removed, but – as you can see from the photos – even the idea of it being there, even temporarily, feels sloppy to me. And not in the good way.
The Ultra doesn’t improve on this aesthetic much, unfortunately, but it does bring some welcome tweaks, at least.
For starters, it’s better balanced in the hand, with contouring that makes it slightly easier to grip during use. It’s still a pretty oversized, there’s no denying that, but it feels more purposefully shaped for its job than the AI+.
The tool-free sleeve adjustment system is way more intuitive to use as well, letting you set your preferred tightness without faffing around with screws in awkward places. It’s much more user-friendly overall and genuinely makes the Ultra feel like a next-gen product in comparison (apart from the same garish colorway, sigh).
Nevertheless, both the AI+ and AI Ultra use the same soft silicone sleeves, which are interchangeable and available in different internal textures and outer finishes.
The Ultra does a better job here, again with a redesigned sleeve system that’s not only easier to insert and remove but also much quicker to clean and dry. This is thanks to its open-bottom design, which improves airflow.
While they’re not the most discreet or attractive toys on the market, the Ultra at least makes a case for itself as a better thought-out product. It’s more ergonomic, easier to manage, and cleaner to maintain.
The AI+ still works, but it feels almost dated in design, feeling clunky next to the more refined Ultra. Neither screams luxury, like I said, but the AI Ultra is clearly more evolved.
Comparing features
In terms of features, the Autoblow AI+ and the Autoblow AI Ultra both sound pretty impressive on paper, with each device designed to replicate the sensations of oral sex in a mechanical way.
However, even before whipping them out and giving them a try, it’s pretty clear off the bat that the Ultra is the one to watch, building on and adding to what the AI+ offers in just about every way.
Let’s start with the features of the AI+. This device includes 10 preset blowjob routines, with varying speeds and stroke patterns that can be cycled through using simple physical buttons on the casing.
It also supports connectivity to Autoblow’s web app, which gives users remote control, either solo or with a partner. There’s also a voice command feature, but this is still in beta and so not particularly reliable.
You can shift the stimulation zone up or down the shaft to change the focus, and the whole device is powered via mains, with no internal battery for remote use.
The Ultra expands on these features, and in a big way. Firstly, it supports a much broader range of stroking modes – up to 36 via the web app – and you can save 12 of these directly to the device for offline use.
But the standout feature is the inclusion of video sync: you can watch specially encoded adult videos while the device’s movements mirror the action on screen, giving a more immersive feel.
Users can also upload their own content and sync it using Funscript files, which makes for a more powerful way to create tailored experiences.
It also offers a more intuitive grip adjustment (there’s no screwdriver required), improved app navigation, and better voice commands that seem a bit more reliable. There’s a Freestyle mode for manual speed and stroke adjustment, too, which lets you customize exactly where the stroking occurs on the shaft.
While the AI+ ticks the basic feature boxes, the Ultra is more of a full upgrade and a much more feature-rich experience aimed at users who want something closer to the real thing.
Comparing performance
Features are one thing, but how do these machines perform in real, day-to-day use? This is where the differences become much more evident.
Let’s kick things off with the AI+. Here, the experience is good but rather limited. The 10 in-built modes serve up a variety of stroke lengths and rhythms, and while they can feel repetitive over longer sessions, there’s enough variation to keep things interesting.
The grip on the sleeve can be adjusted, though, as mentioned, it requires a screwdriver, which is a hassle, and the movement, while a bit mechanical, delivers consistent pressure. There’s no heating function, so everything depends on you warming things up yourself, and cleaning the sleeve afterwards can be a bit of a faff due to its closed design.
In use, the AI+ offers a good blowjob experience, but it rarely crosses over into something that feels authentic or in any way convincing. The stroke action is quite linear, and while pleasant, it doesn’t mimic the motions of a real mouth. You’ll get off, but you won’t be fooled into thinking there’s someone there. But, for many of these devices, that’s not the point anyway.
The AI Ultra, however, changes the game. Not only does it offer more powerful and responsive stroke control, but it also moves the entire sleeve housing, rather than just the sleeve inside, which creates a much more natural sensation. This, along with its ability to more precisely control the stroke range and zone, means it’s a lot easier to hit your sweet spot.
Video sync is another big feature on the AI Ultra. When paired with compatible content via Autoblow’s free video sync library, it reacts in time with what you’re watching, which tricks your brain in ways that feel surprisingly immersive.
And if you’re tech-savvy, the Funscript functionality adds another layer here, creating custom patterns that play out in sync with your favourite videos. And this might be needed for some, as – I must add – the synced content on offer is very limited in genre (straight porn only, it seems).
The Ultra also feels smoother in operation. While it could benefit from a handle on each side like the AI+, the motor is quieter and stronger than its counterpart, and the updated sleeves are easier to install. Cleaning is also improved thanks to the open-end design, which allows airflow and drainage without dismantling the entire machine – the last thing you want to do after you’ve had your fun with it.
And so, while the AI+ works, and will likely deliver orgasms for most users, the Ultra feels like a more complete, high-end product that pushes things that bit closer to the real thing.
For anyone looking for something that goes beyond just motion and into the realm of more authentic and believable sensations, the Ultra is easily the better of the two.
