Why?

OnlyFans paid out $5.8 billion to creators on the platform in 2024, and its total number of creator accounts rose by 13 percent to 4.6 million that year.

A new financial report from the platform also showed that OnlyFans earned $7.22 billion in gross revenue in 2024, a nine percent year-on-year increase. This marks a slowing of OnlyFans’ gross revenue, which grew by 16 percent in 2022 and 19 percent in 2023.

OnlyFans’ pre-tax profit figure for the fiscal year ending on November 30, 2024 was $684 million, up four percent year-on-year.

Despite gross revenue growth slowing, the tidy profit and continual growth in creator numbers keeps OnlyFans in a strong position following reports of the company potentially being sold. Earlier in 2025 it was reported that Fenix International, which owns OnlyFans, was in discussions about selling it to a US investment firm for $8 billion.

When OnlyFans released the 2024 financial figures on August 22, 2025, CEO Keily Blair said: “Remember when people used to speculate about whether OnlyFans would be a pandemic bubble? Today we filed our 2024 accounts, demonstrating once again that OnlyFans is a core part of the creator economy and a UK tech success story.”

OnlyFans was founded in the UK in 2016 by Tim Stokely. In 2018 Stokely sold his majority stake in Fenix International to entrepreneur Leonid Radvinsky.

The platform did indeed enjoy a huge boost during the Covid pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, as more creators, including porn performers, took to earning money from the subscription site by selling content.

In 2021, OnlyFans quickly reversed a decision to ban explicit content on the platform, having risen to success on the back of porn content: a move that eroded many creators’ trust in the platform.

OnlyFans weathered the reputational storm and continued to grow, buoyed by the online porn industry shifting to more ‘home-made’ creator-led content rather than studio-led productions.

It’s not all been plain sailing for solo porn creators. Earlier in 2025 Sweden passed a law amendment, criminalizing buying and commissioning sex acts remotely, and raising the prospect of live cam performers and OnlyFans users facing prison for paying for online sexual interactions.

“As we look to the future we will continue to invest in trust and safety tools which benefit our community and provide the best opportunities for creators to promote and monetise their content with a global fanbase,” Blair said.

Earlier in 2025 OnlyFans’ original founder Stokely launched a rival creator platform called Subs.
