Pornhub’s parent company Aylo has called for device-level age verification for accessing online porn to be implemented on a “global level”, after the company reinstated access to its porn sites in France.
Earlier this month (June 2025) Aylo blocked access in France to Pornhub, YouPorn and RedTube, three of the company’s biggest porn sites. The block came in after French authorities introduced new laws making sites responsible for more robust age verification, to prevent minors accessing porn.
On June 16, the Paris administrative tribunal suspended the government’s porn access age verification decree while an investigation into whether the decree is compatible with EU legislation takes place. Aylo responded by reinstating French access to the three porn sites.
Aylo re-stated its call for age verification laws to require implementation at device-level, rather than being the responsibility of porn sites and platforms. The company has repeatedly said that tougher site-level age verification rules, such as those introduced in various US states as well as in France, are not logistically feasible.
The Cyprus-based company said that the French court suspending the legal order “provides an opportunity to reconsider more effective approaches while we await the Court of Justice of the European Union’s final ruling.”
French lawmakers say that robust age verification processes, including government ID checks, could be implemented by porn site companies such as Aylo.
Speaking of device-level age verification for porn access, Aylo said: “What is required is the political and social will to make it happen on a global level.”
The company added: “We are determined to be part of this solution and want to collaborate with government, civil society and tech partners to arrive at an effective device-based age verification solution. While we continue to comply with regulations in our jurisdiction of establishment, we believe a harmonized approach across borders would better serve the shared goal of protecting minors.”
Pornhub is one of four porn sites being investigated by the EU Commission, which suspects the site of not complying with new EU age verification rules.
