Why?

Whether you’re looking to add a bit of extra excitement to solo sessions or spice up foreplay with a partner, male masturbators are an increasingly popular choice for penis-owners who want to bring toys into the bedroom.

These strokers are also growing in sophistication, adding additional functions like vibration, suction, and automatic stroking.

While companies like Fleshlight and Kiiroo may have popularised the market for such devices, Lovehoney is now getting in on the action with its own-brand range of Lovehoney Blowmotion male masturbators.

The range includes 11 devices in total, of which we have tested three, selected as they cover a range of price points and feature sets:

These devices are aimed at a more price-conscious demographic than the likes of the Lovense Solace or the Kiiroo Titan, so don’t expect any high-tech features; there’s no digital connectivity, no app controls, and no syncing to video or audio content, so the scores provided below for things like ‘features’ are relative to the other items in the range that we’ve tested here only.

There’s also no mechanical motion – the focus is on vibration rather than stroking. Whether this is a positive or a negative will come down to personal preference. Still, it does mean that these toys are significantly quieter on average than mechanical units like the Solace.

They also all feature travel lock features to prevent accidental activations at potentially embarrassing moments.

Two of the three units on test feature magnetic charging connectors, which aren’t ideal, as it’s easy for them to get accidentally disconnected if jostled. We’d also have preferred a connector which is a bit more universal in order to cut down on cable-swapping, although they do at least both use the same magnetic charger.

Blowmotion Hands-Free Real Feel Suction Masturbator

The largest and ostensibly most fully-featured of the three devices on test, this £139.99 Lovehoney Blowmotion Hands-Free Real Feel Suction Masturbator is clearly aiming to compete with the likes of the Kiiroo Titan, albeit without the more advanced features. However, it’s immediately let down by the build quality.

The plastic exterior casing doesn’t feel all that nice or premium, and the buttons controlling the functions are cheap and plasticky. The controls also feature a strip of RGB LED lights indicating things like selected mode and speed, but the naked diodes don’t help with the unit’s slightly budget feel.

The vibrations are provided courtesy of two bullet vibrators – one towards the entrance of the sleeve and one at the end. The experience is pleasant enough, but the silicone the sleeve is made from doesn’t seem all that high-quality, and the comparative lack of functions didn’t do much to inspire.

In addition to seven vibration patterns and three speeds, you can also adjust the tightness of the sleeve. In theory, this provides a more versatile experience, but in practice was slightly disconcerting and required a fair amount of tweaking to get the right level of comfort.

What’s more, at higher levels of tightness, it had an alarming tendency to loud farting noises, which took us out of the experience a little.

By far the weirdest feature is the built-in sound effects; at the press of a button, a cheap and tinny speaker in the base will start emitting throaty, pornographic moans. This is a supremely pointless feature, especially considering the ubiquity of online porn in both video and audio form, and the poor speaker quality doesn’t help either.

There’s a headphone jack for more discrete listening, but this seems even more unnecessary; aside from anything else, who still has 3.5mm headphones lying around any more?

The device also comes with a suction cup which it can be attached to for hands-free mounting, but we wouldn’t be particularly confident in its ability to hold up to anything more than the gentlest of use before becoming unstuck.

The sleeve can be removed for care and cleaning, but the bullet vibrators need to be popped out of their housing first, which is somewhat fiddly, which is a shame considering that it’s explicitly aimed at those with mobility issues, according to the website.

Verdict

A few baffling features aside, this vibrating masturbator isn’t high-quality enough to justify the price, nor is it cheap enough to be an attractive budget option.

Blowmotion Warming and Pulsing Male Masturbator

Lovehoney Blowmotion Warming and Pulsing Male Masturbator is definitely on the larger side for a vibrating masturbator, measuring around 8.5 inches in total (with 5.5 inches of internal length) and a surprisingly thick body.

Although the silicon casing is more pleasant to the touch than the Real Feel Suction Masturbator above, it’s still not as plush as some other examples we’ve seen, and on top of that, the visual design of the device itself isn’t particularly appealing either.

The curved, teardrop-shaped housing is theoretically nicely ergonomic to fit in the hand, but doesn’t look all that nice, although anyone who stumbles on it accidentally may be more likely to think it’s an air freshener or room diffuser than a sex toy.

Looks aside, however, it’s hard to argue with performance, and the experience of actually using this device was very good indeed. In addition to three speeds and seven vibration patterns, the toy also has what the company refers to as a “unique tapping sensation”.

This is somewhat difficult to describe, but the practical effect it produces almost feels like a form of suction and makes for a highly enjoyable session.

Another intriguing feature is the warming function, which supposedly heats the sleeve to a toasty 40 degrees for a more ‘lifelike’ feel. According to the manual, this takes twenty minutes to warm up to full temperature, so it’s not great for quick or spontaneous sessions.

Even after leaving it to heat up for around an hour, we still didn’t notice any discernible warmth, so either the unit we received was faulty, or it’s not very effective.

It’s possible that the unit was damaged during cleaning, which is unfortunately another issue; while the sleeve initially looked like it was removable, this doesn’t appear to be the case.

While the sleeve’s outer lip can be pulled back, it appears to be glued in place internally to facilitate connections for the various electronic components. This makes it much more difficult to clean, and although it’s rated as splashproof, we’d advise extreme caution when cleaning.

While the performance is commendable, this toy just misses the mark with its design and some of its features – it’s not a bad experience by any stretch, but it struggles to justify the £80 asking price compared to others on the market.

Pros

  • Strong performance
  • Unique features
  • Splashproof casing

Cons

  • No effect from the warming feature
  • Non-removable sleeve
  • Bulky design

Verdict

This oddly-shaped accessory performs very well, but is on the expensive side for what it offers, and is let down by some design missteps.

Blowmotion Vibrating Hand Job Masturbator

Lovehoney Blowmotion Vibrating Hand Job Masturbator was surprisingly hard to get to grips with at first. It features two wraparound wings which almost encircle the ridged interior, flowing into a bifurcated tip at the top edge of the device.

Once we’d found the correct orientation and grip, however, it performed very well indeed, with the ridges and the split tips proving particularly effective.

While this handheld masturbator lacks the hands-free functions of the other units on test, the ribbed interior and soft-touch silicone give a more premium feeling, and the design is certainly more aesthetically pleasing. It doesn’t boast much in the way of features – there are 10 vibration settings covering a few different speeds and patterns, and that’s your lot.

However, the open-facing design does make it easier to clean, which is helped by the fact that it’s listed as splashproof, even if the internal ridges do make it a bit fiddly.

The manufacturers promise 60 minutes of runtime from the rechargeable battery, which uses a pin charger, unlike the magnetic connector used by the other two devices.

There isn’t much else to say about this discreet little device; with a total length of six inches, it’s easy enough to hide away, and although it’s bare-bones in its capabilities, it focuses on doing what it needs to, without unnecessary frills and distractions.

  • Attractive design
  • Powerful performance

Despite its limited featureset and unassuming size, this pocket rocket is a no-frills powerhouse that outperforms its larger stablemates.

Overall experience of these three masturbators

While these units may look similar to auto-strokers like the Kiiroo Keon or Lovense Solace, there’s a pretty enormous gulf in terms of functionality, and these devices aren’t delivering anything particularly new or interesting.

Most of the functionality, in fact, could be replicated by duct-taping a vibrator onto a traditional fleshlight, which is disappointing considering the cheapest of the three retails for around £60.

Worse still, the design shortcomings leave both the Real Feel Suction and Warming and Pulsing units feeling like they’re offering the worst of both worlds, with the elaborate and awkward cleanup of a powerful stroker, but without the added quality-of-life features to justify it.

The corners cut in both build quality and materials are also sadly evident in both devices, and although there’s fun to be had with them, there’s not enough benefit to justify the added expense.

If you’re looking for a stroker that offers a bit more than traditional manual stimulation, you may be tempted by some of the added features here, but if you’re looking at the higher-end devices like the Real Feel unit, we’d advise spending a little bit extra on something like the Lovense Solace or Kiiroo Keon.

Final Verdict

Surprisingly, our favourite is the cheapest of the three devices: the Blowmotion Vibrating Hand Job Masturbator.

Moreover, it gave the best experience in use, possibly because we didn’t have to worry about fiddling with different settings.

The Warming and Pulsing masturbator is a close second, but the higher price and fiddly cleaning thanks to the non-removable sleeve means it’s just that little bit too inconvenient to fully recommend.

The Vibrating Hand Job Masturbator is compact enough to keep in a bedside drawer, and powerful enough that you’ll frequently find yourself reaching for it. It may not be very smart, but it’s no less effective at getting the job done.
