The haptics team at VR porn site SexLikeReal is looking at potentially releasing electrical stimulation devices, as the company moves towards launching its first interactive sextech products.
SexLikeReal has been working on its own interactive stroker for years, which could potentially rival strokers made by popular brands like Kiiroo and Lovense. Now the firm has said it is exploring devices that give the penis electrical stimulation, aka small electric shocks, or ‘e-stim’.
SexLikeReal said it was searching for a “sweet spot between pleasure and safety”.
E-stim devices for penises are already available on the sextech market, and tend to be marketed to people in the BDSM community. SexLikeReal moving into this area would be something of a curveball, as the site has been optimized for use with more mainstream-style penis strokers, such as those made by the aforementioned brands Kiiroo and Lovense.
Speaking of e-stim devices, SexLikeReal suggested that if it did release a product like this, it could target users new to getting their genitals zapped with electricity, rather than experienced BDSM community members.
Alez Novak, SexLikeReal CEO, saiys that the company has “heard of exceptional pleasurable experiences” and that the goal is to “make it work yet ensure safety at the same time.”
“The current task is to ensure there’s a max safety limit always applied that won’t do any harm, yet maintain high pleasure, as well as make sure of a quick convenient way to make it all connect and get set up to make it [as] easy as possible for newcomers,” Novak added.
SexLikeReal’s investment in interactive hardware is born out by statistics. 40 percent of the site’s users own an interactive sex toy, and the site has said that there has been an “astronomical rise” in the amount of users using videos with ‘scripts’, which link action on screen to sex toy movement.
Announcing the e-stim haptic research taking place at SexLikeReal, Novak mentioned existing e-stim devices such as the [NSFW] ElectroRing, a wearable device similar to a vibrating ring, that can be powered up to give electric shocks to the penis.
In 2022, a device called the Cellmate 2 made headlines, due to its ability to lock a penis in a locked section of the device, and administer electric shocks to the detained wanger. The electric charges of the Cellmate 2 can be controlled by the device’s extremely poorly-reviewed app.
SexLikeReal scrapped the original design of its forthcoming debut penis stroker device, which had been set for a 2023 release. Now the device is expected to launch in 2025. The company has said it will be followed by an interactive device marketed at women.
It should be reiterated that SexLikeReal has filed its e-stim research in the “potential” category for now, which clearly suggests it’s not a plan that’s set in stone just yet. Whether the company ends up launching a device that can give a zippy wake-up call to your todger or not, it’s clear that it sees its future very much linked to hardware interactivity.
