Why?

Porn camming site XloveCam recently launched a live VR camming section and is giving away 200 VR webcams to porn creators, in a move suggesting that this slice of the VR porn pie is becoming more palatable to users.

Live porn VR camming is already offered by various other camming sites, such as Stripchat and SexLikeReal. However, it remains a relatively niche section of the live porn camming industry, largely due to the equipment both cammers and viewers need to use it.

However, XloveCam’s push into the sphere suggests that there is new confidence of its expansion. The site, which was recently relaunched, began beta testing for its live VR porn camming section in January 2023, and has now announced that it’s giving away 200 VR camera prototypes, to help stimulate interest ahead of a wider platform launch.

VR cams have, this far, been a subsidiary section of explicit cam sites that rely on more standard ‘2D’ camming via conventional webcams. Around 2016 AliceX, a cam platform dedicated to VR, launched, but ceased operating in 2017. Indeed, Dreamcam launched somewhat of a push to revitalize the sector.

The industry has matured somewhat since then, with many porn industry-watchers believing that VR porn represents the core growth niche in the sector. VR headsets are more affordable for home use than they were in the mid-2010s, but still remain far from a truly mainstream prospect.

That might shift a bit later in 2023, when Apple is expected to release its first mixed-reality headset. The predicted price tag of around $3,000 might be limiting for one or two households, though.

In giving away 200 VR webcams, the site is ensuring that there will be a variety of performers available in VR, which is the one factor that truly affects VR live cam success in the long run.
