VR porn camming platform Dreamcam claims to be the first to offer passthrough VR porn in 6K quality directly through a web browser. It’s the kind of move that could help pave the way to make VR porn use more accessible for lots of users.
Many VR porn sites and platforms already offer content directly through VR browsers, without the need to view it through a dedicated app. However, high-resolution passthrough content is generally not available in this way.
Passthrough is the visual effect of digital VR content appearing as if it is in your ‘real’ surroundings, when you’re wearing a VR or mixed reality headset. Cameras on the headset create a replica of your real surroundings in your visual field, and place the digital content, such as a porn cam performer, into the visuals.
Dreamcam using WebXR technology (experiencing VR and AR directly in a web browser) shows a more streamlined way to access VR porn passthrough than most users are used to. For some, just requiring a dedicated VR headset app to view it is a step too far, whereas being able to dip in and out easily just using a VR web browser could encourage wider use.
Dreamcam said that the web browser passthrough launch made “interacting with models in real environments faster, simpler and more realistic” than before.
VR porn is considered by many to represent a big chunk of the future of the online porn industries, and many platforms such as Dreamcam and SexLikeReal (SLR) have had strong success with it. VR headset use is yet to become truly mainstream in US homes across economic groups, and VR porn remains niche, but it’s on the up.
Innovations such as allowing easier passthrough access, through methods such as Dreamcam’s web browser method, are likely to help growth.
SLR is investing in innovations such as the company developing its own penis stroker device, that can be synced to SLR VR porn content. It’s expected to be released later in 2026, provided the company doesn’t start over once again.
