VRBangers has come through with another headline-grabbing virtual reality experiment – recording your sex session to relive it in virtual reality in the future.

The Time Capsule service is a “secure and private place that will keep your intimate memories safe for all these incoming years”, with high-definition playback complete with binaural sound to create a movie of memories to show your grandchildren (jk).

The “time travel” experience starts at $10,000, but pay an extra $5k to cover the costs of the planning, filming, venue rental, editing and post-production of your video to watch it back in years to come. In VRBangers‘ own words, the experience should bring you “back to the times when your intimate life was fresh and free of monotony – yet with the same partner that you loved and respected for your entire life.”

Problematic PR

Who exactly are VRBangers trying to target with this? The above quote, along with the Preserve Your Sexuality tagline (pictured), suggests that the sex you’ll be having in old age is going to be so unsatisfactory you’ll be pining for sessions of yore. It seems like pretty sex-negative marketing to us. In contrast, we hope that sextech will continue to evolve and innovate in the coming decades to prolong people’s enjoyment of sexual activity for the rest of their lives.

However, if you forgive the marketing misstep, the idea behind the Time Capsule should be an exciting one for VR enthusiasts, suggesting that amateur VR porn isn’t too far in the future – if you have the cash.

VRBangers says the Capsule is not in beta mode, and it is “sure of the effectiveness of our solutions”. This is encouraging, if you consider the fact that coughing up all that money probably means you won’t want to be used as some VR guinea pig. Users who register their interest to purchase the experience can count on the fact that it has been “tested with many different couples” already, according to the adult entertainment site.

In fact, one of these tester couples feature in a demo video that Time Capsule users can view to get some inspiration on what sort of movie they’d like to record.

Compatibility issues

No, we’re not talking about relationship compatibility here, although from the company’s aforementioned statement that the movie can be enjoyed “with the same partner that you loved and respected for your entire life” – we do wonder if it’s possible to remove your video at any point, say, in the event of a break up.

On the issue of security, VRBangers, says in the press release: “If you decide to participate in our initiative, your recording will not be made available in any way and it will be safely saved in our storage with full respect for your right to privacy.”

Regarding device compatibility, VRBangers assures users they don’t need to invest in any sophisticated technology in order to use the service.

The statement says: “We knew that in contrast to classic VR porn movies, you are going to need two VR devices for VRB’s Time Travel to work, that is why we wanted to make it as convenient and undemanding as possible.”

After recording your session and saving it to the VRBangers’ Time Capsule service, all you need is two VR headsets (any brand or type) to watch the movie back. The site also recommends some budget-friendly CPU-less VR options, which use most modern smartphones as processors.

Putting yourself in front of the camera is clearly the next step for VR enthusiasts. While $10,000 seems like a hefty price tag, it’s the same asking price as a one-time sex session with a robot “virgin” offered by a Californian brothel last year. How long will it be before you can record your own VR movie with a sex robot? Or even, how long before robots start recording their own amateur VR porn?

We’ll most likely find out one day.
