Porn In a Box is VR porn for technophobes, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense

Why?

VR porn has come a fair way in the last few years, even throwing up some dedicated VR porn headsets along the way, in the form of the VRotica and a couple of other options. The newest of these is the not-so-subtly-named Porn-in-a-Box, which has partnered with BaDoinkVR to launch its new headset.

Unlike other options, however, this isn’t a custom-made headset just for porn. Instead, it’s a standard Oculus GO 32GB that comes pre-loaded with some custom software that makes it easy to jump straight into watching porn.

“We’re looking at the less technical adopter who just wants to open up the box and get going, but privately,” company President John McBride told SEXTECHGUIDE. “We’re sideloading an unofficial app on the Oculus which will allow users to privately launch the headset browser straight to our platform of VR porn content.”

With PIAB’s site including a video player, no configuration is needed. Additionally all VR video on the site has been optimized for the Oculus, which means it should simply start up without you needing to fiddle about with the settings or choose a video resolution.

Easy-access content

All of the pre-loaded content in the package comes courtesy of BaDoinkVR, which has established credentials in the VR space, and also owns niche sites like VRCosplayX, 18VR and BabeVR.

Members get access to a library comprised of this content, but only ever have access to a small selection at any one time, the company confirmed. Right now, there are 700+ scenes available, and 15 full-length scenes included for members.

Of course, as it’s an otherwise-standard Oculus GO headset and you can download and stream VR porn from any of the regular places, but then that does somewhat defeat the point of aiming this headset at the techno-phobe that wants to try out adult VR.

Ultimately, some of the other top VR porn sites already provide apps that make playback a cinch. BaDoinkVR itself already has a virtual theater mode, for example, while the likes of VRBangers and SexLikeReal also offer useful apps for members that require no faffing around.

The Porn In A Box version of the Oculus GO is only available in the US for now and currently retails for $299.99 – a full $100 more than just buying one from Amazon or anywhere else. This means you’re essentially paying an extra $100 for a shortcut that launches the standard Oculus browser to a specific location, and access to a small catalog of scenes.

Plug-and-play porn will certainly be an attractive proposition for some, but this one just doesn’t quite make sense to us.
